I was going to be travelling to Colombia with Malou and Lotta who I met in the Amazon which I was glad about as the route was not going to be a straight forward one. We had to catch a bus to Tulcan, taxi to the border, cross the border, taxi to Ipiales and then another bus to San Agustin.
Things started to go wrong when we heard there was a bus strike in Colombia. All went well until we got to Ipiales - hoping to visit the Santuary pictured in the photo before a night bus to San Agustin. When we arrived at the bus station we found it more or less closed as hardly any buses were running due to the strike. Lucky 8 of us gringos were adopted by a local trying to get to Medellin who found us a bus as far as Pasto with the hope that there would be more buses there.
There weren't....
Again our friend talked his way into the barricaded bus station and found out buses would be going to San Agustin in the morning. We then found a hotel near to the bus station for the night. The area may have been rough but the hotel itself was amazing - the best I had stayed in since working away for ONS and for only £10 for the night.
We went out for fried chicken and then an early night to recover from our ordeal so far and to prepared for us heading to the bus station at 6am!
