Hey guys! Sorry it's taken me so long to post my blog about my trip to Greece! We flew into Crete which is an island south of Santorini. That's where we stayed for the most of our vacation. We stayed at this "resort". It was two villas that shared a pool so we took one villa and Mike and Jocelyn's friends took the other one with their kids! It ended up being perfect. We would wake up every morning, eat breakfast and head to the pool by 9/9:30 to start the day. Each day we were in Crete, we went to the beach. Our first full day we went to a more private beach where there weren't a ton of people which was super nice. I swam out in the ocean over to some clifs that you could climb up. It was super cool and beautiful. You could see the bottom of the ocean even when it was like 15 feet deep! The temperature of the ocean was 72 degrees, which is warmer than Lake Michigan in the summertime :) Then the next couple of days we went to a more popular beach that has tons of shops and restaurant's on it. Mike and I at one point were drinking beers in the ocean watching the kids. It was super relaxing. We went to this AMAZING restaurant one night. It's one of the top ten restaurants in Greece! There was no better place to try seafood for my first time then there. I tried octopus, sea bass, prawns, scallops, lobster, and mussles. I can now say that I'm a fan of seafood but, I'm not sure I will have anything like that food ever again because it was THAT GOOD.
Our next stop was Santorini, my favorite of the three places in Greece we went to. We stayed along Kamari Beach which is known for having black sand. It was insanely beautiful but, the sand was super hot and kind of rocky. I was able to try paddle boarding for my first time there and let me tell you that it is not as easy as it looks! My legs were actually sore the next day from it! One of the nights we went to the village of Oia, which is what you think of when you think of Santorini (all the white houses with blue tops). We had dinner at this cute little restaurant that over looked the ocean and the village. The last day we were in Santorini, we did this sail boat excursion, which Lynn has done before too. It was for 5 hours and they could take you wherever you wanted to go and they cooked you dinner! They took us to see some iconic beaches called the red beach, white beach and they sailed us by a volcano which is still active and it errupts every 150 years! They let us hop off the boat and go swimming in the middle of the ocean. It was so peaceful. They cooked us dinner on the boat which included mussles, prawns, various greek foods, and chicken. It was super good. Then the crew took us to go watch the famous Greek sunset. I don't think I've ever seen anything so beautiful. The crew was fantastic and super friendly. One of them actually studied hospitality management at the University of Rhode Island!
Our last and final stop was in Athens. Athens is just like any other big city. We went and saw the Acropolis, Zeus' Temple, and the first Olympic Stadium. It was so interesting to see all of those buildings and to see how long they have been there and that they are still standing. Besides seeing those, there isn't a whole lot else to do in Athens which is why we only spent one night there. As you all may have heard, Greece is going through a very hard time financially. Mike tried to go to the ATM to take some money out but he had to go to six different ATM's to find one that still had money in it! The day after we left we found out that the banks in Greece had been shut down so thank god we got out of there when we did. All in all, this trip was amazing and Greece was by far my favorite place that I have been to while in Europe. I hope that I can go back one day.
This weekend, Jocelyn, Tristan and I are going to Belgium with another friend of Jocelyn's! We are going to Brugges and Ghent. I think that I'm most excited to try Belgium chocolate for the first time :) I will post the pictures from Greece and I'll type my blog from Belgium when I get back! I hope everyone is doing well and I miss you all!
