Alice in Wonderland....literally!!
Hello Everybody!! So here is the first postcard from Thailand...same as the group e-mail I'm afriad, but for those who didn't get it...here's what I've done so far!!
So I arrived safely and managed to sleep the whole journey of the plane, all except one hour at the end. I had three seats again so was led out perfectly. Being small isn't so bad Alan!! Unfortunalty missed the highlight....every single meal!! Valium worked more as a knock out this time, becuase did feel slightly scared at the beginning...maybe it hadn't taken effect at that point??
So got to my hotel which was nice...slightly resembled the one in The Beach which kinda freaked me out, but was still dopey and fell asleep quite quickly. Found MTV Asia on my TV, interesting!!
Ventured downstairs to the hotel restaurant for dinner, was nice, sweet and sour chicken and some eggy bread thing and sauce.
This morning I met my 'Bangkok Buddy' called At and we walked along the main road in Banglamphu where I'm staying. Then we went to a fresh food market, fresh meaning still living!!.....absolutley stank but was incredible the things that they were selling.....turtles, snakes, frogs, fish, birds, cats etc. Then onto the river where we caught a ferry up to the sky train stop. The ferry is as common a form of transport as the skytrain, and was a really cool way to see the City. Got pictures of the Shangri-La Mum, Dad and Charlie!! Looks dead posh mind, and they ahve their own river boat!! Raaaa!! Went to a temple, beautiful goldness everywhere. Then went on a skytrain to Jim Thompsons House. Before all I knew about him was that he had a restaurant on Whiteladies Road, but now I know more!! hehe. Was stunning architecture and well worth a visit. Met a nice girl called Emma from Cheltenham who joined our tour and turns out she went to Birmingham uni which was a coincidence. Got another ferry to Golden Moutain but was too hot to walk up it so just looked!! Got in a tuk-tuk to the most incredible shopping mall....6 floors!! I bought 2 things...impressive huh, although I have never in my life seen so many incredible fakes, such a nice chanel bag...................anyway, i resisted!! Lunch was interesting, you buy coupons and then go arouind choose what you want eat it, then get the unused coupons refunded. Had chicken on Rice....very exotic.
Made our way to the infamous Khao San Road, just how i expected and incredible. I swear Ive never seen so many shop signs in my life...you'll ahve to see the photos which will follow soon. Was buzzing, and saw very few Thai people, all pretty much tourists.
Tonight am going to a night Market with Emma, and then tomorrow we are going to see Wat Po (the lying down massive Buddha) and the Grand Palace. As well as have a Thai massage!! Can't Wait.
Well as always, motor mouth has managed to write a page full of rubbish, but hope you enjoyed it all the same. Look forward to hearing from you all very soon!!
