Day 13 - Fairly early start - the locals seem to get up at the crack of dawn but headed down for breakfast at the hotel. Fruit, omelette and French bread and the best coffee ever! Local coffee with condensed milk at the bottom - even coffee hating Chris liked it!
Headed out whilst it was still cool and went to check out the hill tribe village situated on the outskirts of the town. The village has a good example of a rong which is a communal house - like a village hall - with a 15m high thatched roof.
On the way back we stopped at Eva Cafe which the guide book had recommended. Couldn't find it at first but glad we did. Had coffee with the owner surrounded by his sculptures next to a traditional stilt house. Lucky he was there as we were easily confused with the way the filter coffee is served!
Stopped at the bakery again for lunch and then checked out of the hotel after a bit of last minute downloading of Family Guy onto the iPhone! The owner had booked us on the 3 o'clock bus to Danang and written us a note for the bus driver to tell him we wanted to get off early to go to Hoi An.
Whilst waiting for the bus a fellow passenger who spoke pretty good English told us to get off the bus when he did and he would order us a taxi. This was a bit of a relief because we were beginning to worry about being abandoned at the side of the road by the bus driver! We set off with the same bus company as yesterday along the Ho Chi Minh Highway - the part we saw of it was pretty spectacular as you head off through the highlands passing hill tribe villages along the way. It was a pretty wiggly road to say the least!
We stopped again at a roadside cafe for dinner (although this time we had to pay 60p) and had yummy noddles in a chicken broth. Back on the bus - it was pretty dark now and we weren't really sure how far we had to go. We started to see signs for Danang and thought our friend and the driver had forgotten - but before we reached the city centre we stopped and hopped off with our new companion. He ordered us a taxi and then waited with us even when his wife had arrived to pick him up!
Eventually at about 10pm we reached the Ha An hotel in Hoi An. We were greeted by porters who whisked our bags away and were ushered to a table outside where we were served fresh ginger tea, fruit and little biscuits, and an ice cold towel - just what we needed! Our deluxe room was amazing! Can't wait to explore Hoi An tomorrow. The aim is to get some suits tailored for us as this place is famous for it. Went to sleep watching England vs Spain live on the TV whilst anxiously checking the south-league website to see how the lads got on today. Bit gutted I'm missing the team 'outing' in Brighton but I can't complain too much!!
