Bamboo Island,
Once we found where it was we wanted to go, we booked a snorkeling trip that visited Bamboo island, forfeiting the boat back to land, we jumped ship and trekked through the jungle to sunset beach on the other side of the island. Being only a small island, this didn't take long. There is also only one bar/restaurant/accommodation on the island - so shopping around isn't necessary however we were lucky to get a bungalow. Once checked in, we recovered from our hard trek and took stock of the beautiful surroundings. Immediately we liked where we were, the relaxed atmosphere and the remoteness was just what we had been looking for after the heroic drinking of the booze cruise the previous day.
The sunset side of the thin island boasts a long golden beach with clear water and oddly squeaky sand (Something to do with silica I'm told??). Coconut trees line the edge of the sand and most of the bungalows are set in there shade with hammocks on the porches of the larger rooms. We spent the rest of the our arrival day between the beach, hammock and bar (which gets lively at night remarkably). We soon found that this pattern is easily repeated as there is nothing else to do; no electric, no tuk tuks and no shops. Paradise!! It was in this manner that we spent the next three days. Having recovered from our first day hangovers we began to take part in the lively evenings and I discovered my hidden talent. Unknown to me I can pick a piece of card of the floor with my teeth - without bending my legs! Who knew. We woke on the fourth day (me with sore bones) feeling that we needed to move on, so we said our good byes to the wonderful people we had met and left for the mainland.
Once back on dry land and being hounded by tuk tuk drivers and beach sellers, we found refuge in a bar and bumped into our old chums Danni and Ben who were heading on the next boat to bambo island. Twenty four hours later, we had joined them and were soaking up the island paradise once more...
