We'd heard about a town called Zomba a bit to the North of Blantyre which was set at the base of a lage table-top mountain and supposedly had a great market. The market was more geared to locals than to tourists but it was nice to wander around and have cheeky barganing sessions over things we had absolutely no intention of buying.
We decided to spend the next day up on Zomba plateau and so caught a taxi up to the top. We jumped out at some rapids called Williams Falls and wandered along to Queen's View (named after the Queen mum apparently). The view was stunning: we could quite literally see for hundreds of miles and the sight of an eagle circling around was pretty cool. We spent a little time searching for the leopards and hyena which are supposed to live on the mountain but only saw some butterflys and one mouse - but let me tell you it was one mean looking rodent and we were lucking to escape a gnawing. After that we walked back down the mountain to a swanky restaurant for lunch (shared with a few baboons). We then took a minibus back to Blantyre for two more nights to do a little shopping and recovering from the aches and pains brought on by actually exercising. Next stop big, bad Jo'burg...
