After a couple of days in Mzuzu we headed over to nearby Nkata Bay on Lake Malawi to escape the rain (yes it rains a suprising amount in Africa and gets quite chilly, well not as chilly as an English winter, but you get the idea anyway). We jumped out of the minibus and some guys decided they were going to 'escort' us to the hotel, one of whom was absolutely wasted. We were adamant that we were not going to give them money, but they carried on nonetheless so we followed the drunk one up the hill and found our place. He then proceeded to get angry because we'd booked in advance so he wouldn't get commission, but I figured the walk did him some good so it was a win win situation really!
The first place we went didn't have a roof on the toilet or shower as the builders were still constructing it, so we decided to go next door to a place called Mayoka Village. It was a really great place, with little cabins perched on a really steep rock face down to the water. There was a huge bar with a pool table and restaurant, as well as snorkels to borrow to see the really cool fish. We ended up staying for 4 days because it was such a relaxed place, there were a few bbq's and even some Tanzanian acrobats jumping through fire and bending in ways not humanly possible!
Sadly we had to leave sometime and on the Sunday we caught a 10hr bus to Lilongwe (the capital) and were back into the swing of things.
