After a rather un-eventful start to the new year - the last hour or so of NYs Eve was spent at the boarding gate in Nairobi, and the clock ticked over to the new year about the time we boarded our flight - things have been on the up.
Lucinda, Rachel's Godmother and my host for the time I'm here, gave me directions to catch a train into Victoria station where I could catch a hop-on, hop-off bus of London's sights. Well, I never quite made it to the bus...
Just after I got off the train I heard someone calling my name. Surely not; no one here knows me. But, sure enough, it was someone I knew.
I turned around to see Sarah Sellars, a friend of mine from the Spirit of Adventure. I've paid a couple of surprise visits to her on trips to Auckland but this was by far the biggest surprise yet. I'm amazed she spotted me: she had no idea I was travelling, and was confused because my hair's changed colour; I thought she was either still in Canada or back in NZ, and had no idea she was coming to Europe.
Hence the bus tour not happening - we went for lunch, a catch-up and a trip in the London Eye to see the sights from the air instead.
It really is a small world.
