Completley forgot to mention two very awesome events in Beijing so here's a quick update before the next full blog.
One evening we were taken to the 798 art district. This is Beijings snooty, very modern full of "Look Arthur, a cigarette but on a plastic chair! We muuuust have it for only $65,000" art district. And I absolutley loved it. There was lots of amazing art and graffiti about (see my Beijing photos) as well as many shops seling awesome goods. I managed to buy Black Sabbath '13', Daft punk 'Random access memories' and Marilyn Manson 'Born villian' for 60 yuan (6 pounds) which was fantastic. Another shop had a small gun which we thought looked awesome. We enquired and it was a cap gun but you insterted matches into it. The man loaded it up in the shop then said :For saftey reasons it couldn't be fired indo- *BANG*". The thing went off with like an actual gun in the doorway of the shop scaring a small asian woman half death. Wow it was loud. We fired it again outside (video to come if I can get hold of it!) and like small children again, giggled excitidley at its powers. But for 300 yuan, we had to leave it behind.
We explored some art galleries as well and they had some very intresting pieces. One outdoor piece (in the photos it can be viewed) was a metal cut out of a male and female which would be stepped into which was cool. There was a giant wheel made out of wool, various pictures of utter tat which passes for art and weird statues. A few were really cool like a picture of a goldfish in various colours (hard to explain why it was cool but it was) and a transformer made out of scrap. We went in to one gallery with a giant row of boxes which you could look through the middle of. As Tim leant down to look he planted a hand on it too which it responded with a large crunch. I have never moved so fast in my life as I have exiting that gallery.
We then went to a tea drinking ceremoney and witnessed that magic. It was pretty cool and the tea was delicious. As were the choclate and strawberry waffers provided. I believe dan ate 10 and the owners gave him a free bix he liked them so much. The ceremoney itslef was very intresting though when the woman was giving details Mike was having great difficulty translating due to it mostly being philosphical phrasing on the nature of tea. An all round corking day.
Another day we visted Heavnley Temple which is a huge park with said temple in it. That place was absolutley beautiful and photos of it can again be seen in my album. We spent a lot of time here just exploring and viewing the place in all its beuaty. we also had our first incident were a volunteer walked straight into a tree splitting her head open and concussing her. It was quite bad and later resulted in a trip to the hospital. the hospitals are bizazzare (more on that to come in Fukang, just a check up, don't worry about mer reader)
Well that was the quick one due to my forgetfulness, tune in soon for my next 'proper blog' on Fukang,
Edit over.
Excelsior!
