On to Cambodia! Our first destination was Phnom Penh where we stayed for two nights. The area along the river with the Royal Palace is a lovely place to walk around, although unfortunately the palace was shut while we were there so we couldn't go inside. We went to the National Museum which had Cambodian artefacts from as long ago as the 11th Century so we could learn about the culture. The must-see sights in Phnom Penh have to be the Tuol Sleng prison and the killing fields where hundreds of people were tortured and executed under Pol Pot's communist regime. It was heartbreaking and unbelievable to witness the cells the victims were kept in, the mass graves, the skulls, teeth and clothes of those that had been killed and bones still coming to the surface of the very path we were walking along. It was a haunting experience and we have just learnt that two of the Khmer Rouge's leaders have been brought to justice today- better late than never. For the last two days we have been in Cambodia's beach capital Sihanoukville. Yesterday when we arrived it was a rainy and horrible day so we went to our nearest beach Serendipity and chilled with some food and a beer. At night we returned to the beach and stayed out late with the good music and vibes and watching the waves roll in- heaven! Today we went a little further afield to Otres Beach, one of the top beaches in South East Asia and we can definitely see why. It was gorgeous and the weather completely turned on it's head with boiling hot sunshine and blue skies. We spent probably the first full day of our whole trip having a good few hours relaxation on the beach and it was great! Tomorrow we move on again but tonight we will enjoy another night at a beach restaurant and chilllllll!
