Another beautiful day for travelling, although the further north we travelled the more clouds came but it was still very warm. As we rode it was noticeable that whenever we came within sight of any water be that sea or Ffjord the temp dropped considerably. As we rode north after about an hour the landscape we were travelling through changed from the agriculture and dairy farms we had been seeing since disembarking in Rotterdam to pine forests which we followed through to Jonkoping.
We saw our first British car since leaving Rotterdam, I waved but they didn't wave back; that could be because we were going so fast we were just a blur!
The hotel seems very nice but we haven't checked in yet.
We arrived at 1, changed and stored our luggage and came out for an explore. We have already sorted cycle hire out for tomorrow and Colin has had the most expensive hair cut in his life! Colin discussed with the hairdresser his observation that Scandanavian girls have far more tattoos than British girls, this surprised her as she thought it was the norm for girls to have large and numerous tattoos all over them.
Now joined the locals in chilling out by the beach and grassed areas.
Evening meal was -meatballs again, but thankfully there was also chicken drumsticks and a huge array of salads for variety. People watching at an inclusive buffet is great, I'm sure that the way we choose and load up our plates would fascinate psychologists. There are the nibblers who put bite sized portions of everything on their plate, then you have the heap it high brigade who then go back for 2nds and 3rds- some-one should be able to analysis our different characteristics from this I'm sure.
After tea we went off for another explore and ended up in a Swedish pub chain called Bishop's Arms. We had come across one yesterday in Malmo but thought it wasn't a Swedish place. Going in to this one we could have been any where in Britain in the era before pubs got modernised! They even sold Spitfire Bitter, the wooden beams were strewn with brasses and tankards, not too mention chamber pots and hunting horns. Colin asked for some local beer and nearly had to sit down when asked to pay £13 for a pint and a half- it took him all night to recover!
Off for a good night's sleep I hope. Tomorrow is a rest day so we have rented bicycles!!!!!'
