Using the wonderful advice of the french contact I befriended on the iPod app for gay guys we devised a fun afternoon on the river on a kayak for about $12 for an hour or 2 and got there using our cheap as chips public transport ticket. It was a late start since we had a great night on the town shaking that thing and enjoying the vibes of 6th street and ended up in the pool at the motel when we returned. It was very therapeutic and lethargic. We discussed the stars and each others' life plans and pondered other rubbish whilst floating, diving and hoping that the management wouldn't come and kick us out.
We used Lyn's phone to guide us and discovered the the groovy little app (Android navigator I think) realised when we were on the bus and consequently was smart enough to tell us when to get off the bus! Fantastic. We...:- Enjoyed watching the city scape come into view as we turned into the main river. - Paddled in the deadly springs; deadly because the rocks at the bottom wee so skippy with weeds that it was similar to an uneven and deeply melted ice rink. - Saw ducks, an owl, turtles, terrified dogs and dogs who looked like they were naval captains in a previous life whilst on the river. - Jumped off a bridge but had to chase the canoe as it tried to float away. As soon as we climbed the bridge of course which knocked down any time we had to lose our nerve. - Just got the canoe back in time!
On the way home we stopped for dinner at a tex-mex restaurant where I had what was effectively an olive cocktail and although black olives have grown on me... These were green. And it was the longest cocktail shaker I have ever received meaning I had to endure 3 glasses of the stuff. I do NOT RECOMMEND! Consequently I can't remember what I ate but I assume it was a mediocre burger.
HOWEVER, swings and roundabouts , after our bus didn't stop for us (I don't think the driver was even aware that there was a bus stop; since he didn't slow down) we had to reroute and came across $2 frozen margaritas!!! We enjoyed 2 each of these with complementary nachos and a very spicy salsa before leaving one very well-earned tips and heading on home Jack; don't spare the horses. This place was the bomb but empty (possibly since it was a Sunday night) so we recommend you find it should you find yourself in Austin. Ask us and we will actually work out where it was and what it's called...
