We arrived in "sunny" Noosa! Absolutley pouring down. Noosa is quite a popular holiday destination for wealthy Australians, our main purpose for stopping was to do a bit of surfing! So we found the cheapest hostel we could, which was Koala's, we'd heard bad reviews about the chain but, thought we'd give it a try. It was OK in the end, not much different from other hostels. We went for a wonder when there was a break in the rain, only to find that most things in town were closed because it was Sunday. So we decided to head for the bar :) We were joined by Tom and Rach - our friends from Fraser and by a Dutch couple - Jeroen and Milou who were in one of the other 4x4s on Fraser with us. It just so happens that it was happy hour, so we had quite a few jugs to get through, so we played Maxi a drinking game played with dice apparently with similar rules to backgammon with extra rules added including international drinking rules!
The following morning feeling fresh as a daisy we decided to go for a walk in Noosa National Park, its apparently famous for being able to see wild Koalas, and Steph - with the worst eyesight managed to spot the one and only one we saw :) We watched some surfing for a while but it was rubbish because there was no surf?? So we decided to go deeper into the park which was full of insects and beasties, such a wrong idea because as we were 9walking steph bumped into a massive spider web with a deadly death spider!!! That the wildlife specialist couldn't even identify!! - Turned out to be in the family of a Golden Orb!!
Decided to have a chilled out evening with Tom, Rach and a movie on ye olde faithful - the laptop, because we had to be up early for Australia Zoo - (Home of the late Steve Irwin and family) the next day!
First we saw the cheeky little otters being fed, then we saw the Bindi show (starring Steve's daughter) which was sooo cheesy, shes going to be in the next free Willy movie?!?! In the Crocoseum there was a big auction to spend an hour cleaning elephants with the Irwins that made 2500 aus dollars!!!! We thought that was a bit low! But afterwards we saw the Crocs getting fed by Teri Irwin - Steve's wife.
There was so much to see, we tried to time it so that we were at each animal station while they were being fed, so saw the lively otters being fed their breakfast, the koalas getting there portion of eucalyptus - one had the cutest baby clinging onto here for dear life which Steph wanted to take home. We saw a pretty funny tiger show, the tigers were playing with toys and jumping into the water and climbing trees. We walked through open areas where kangaroos romed freely and you can feed and pet them. There were massive averys filled with exotic birds, a large tortoise almost as big as a small car (say Al's old metro) and all the Australian classics up close like Cassowaries, Dingoes, Wombats, Taz Devils and many more.
It was massive and by the end of the day we were shattered so we clambered onto our Greyhound bus that was taking is to Brisbane.
