Hey all!
Since our last blog we have been to Canberra for two nights but are now in Sydney as we arrived yesterday so thought i would tell you a bit about Canberra. By the way it is quite late as i am writing this in Sydney, Alex left of keycard in te room and we are now locked out for what looks like the whole night, so this should be interesting!
Anyway we arrived in Canberra without any accommodation so just got a taxi to a bed and breakfast at about 7 in the morning but we werent allowed our room until 10. We headed to a cafe for some breakfast and waited which was horrible as we were so tired after the overnight coach. When we checked in we slept for a few hours and then went out to explore the area we were in which was actually really nice considering what we have heard about Canberra. I am reading a book by Bill Bryson called Down Under and his slogans are 'Canberra... Why wait for death?' and 'Canberra... Gateway to everywhere else!' It is supposed to be really boring here but since it is the capital we thought we should make a short stop. On the first night we found an English pub which we stayed in the majority of the time. On the second day we walked tothe national gallery and had a look around and also went to the new and old parliament building. We then walked into the city centr which took forever in the heat but there wasnt much in the city centre so just headed back to our place to get ready for another night out in Kingston which is where our B&B was. Canberra was lacking in things to do so we were glad to only be there for two nights but at the same time it was nice just to chill for a bit in between other places where there are so many activities. We actually found it quite pleasant as it very green and there is a huge man made lake running through the city where we had picnics and laid in the sun. So we quite liked it there!
We then got another bus into Sydney, and when we found the hostel that we had booked into it was in the north of Sydney a bit out of things so we have to ge tthe bus into the centre. The place is really nice except our smells really damp! On the first night we headed into the centre for a night out where we went to Minus 5 bar where it that cold and you have to wear eskimo clothes! We have some pictures that we will upload later! It was really good fun in there and everything was made out of ice, the bar, the glasses etc. We then just went on to a bit of a pub crawl and stumbled to bus stop quite drunk but the buses had stopped running as it was too late (even though we were told they would be running all night) and we just wandered about for about an hour before getting in a taxi! It was quite eventful as alex kept stopping taxis and i kept turning them down and looking for a bus. Today we woke up late but not hungover thank god and did a it of shopping. It rained a bit today so we just hung around and went to see the opera house and the harbour bridge and watched a magician on the street! Now it is night and still locked out :( well goodnight for now and we will let you know what happens for the rest our time in Sydney! miss you lots xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
