Prague is officially my favorite city we have been to. I love everything about it. I knew I was going to love the Czech Republic when we were on the train and passing small villages and the forest landscapes. The city is so old, beautiful and historical. I feel like I could have just spent days walking around and taking it all in. You know you love it when it's overcast and it's still perfect.
When we arrived in Prague yesterday we headed straight to the hostel with our backpacks to drop them off instead of lugging them with us as we did in Berlin. We made our way effortless to the Charles Bridge, which our hostel was basically on. Though we could not find the hostel. We went up and down the huge hill with out bags asking people. Then we realized that the people we were asking thought we were saying "castle" not "hostel." We eventually found it. We walked right by it! It was in a tourist office with no sign at the bottom of the hill we walked up and down.
We hesitantly walked into the Grecian style hostel to find that it was very nice! We have done really well with picking hostels- we did our research! The hostel offers free tours, coffee and bottled water. It was our first hostel without a bar in reception. Our room was really nice, it was a private triple with a shared bathroom off of an outdoor terrace and stairwell.
After putting our stuff away we headed back up the big hill to see Prague Castle and Cathedral, both of which were beautiful and had a breathtaking view of the city. Our next stop The John Lennon Wall was one of the sights I have been most looking forward to seeing on this Euro Trip. It's so colorful and positive. We signed the wall and took it all in. We crossed the beautiful Charles Bridge once again to go back into Old Town where we walked around the Easter Markets, watched rock candy be made and ate Bombardina, a yummy potato mixture, and Trdelink, a hollow fried dough dessert dipped in cinnamon sugar for dinner.
Everytime I turned around in Prague there was something to see. The historic and legendary Astronomical Clock was amazing and we even saw a Tim Burton exhibition. The city is so interesting and has so much to offer.
After much convincing of Holly and Hannah, we went in a ghost tour of the city. I was really scared at first, but our tour guide was a really sweet and entertaining woman from Atlanta who wasn't scary at all. She mostly just told us about the legends and mysteries of Prague. Alyssa and Auntie Linda would have LOVED this tour!
We walked around the square afterwards and got another Trdelink before going back to the hostel and calling it a night. We had our first hostel showers and laundry in sink. I think were getting good at this whole
backpacking thing!
We are now on our 24 hour train journey through Czech Republic and Austria to a relaxing beach day in Split, Croatia!
Love,
Al
