Before we left home, The Floriade was one of the things we were most excited to see...
But first, today we started out in Cologne, Germany with a walking, city-tour. It was both more and less than what we'd expected. More quirkiness, for sure! It was also larger than we'd thought it'd be - this is a bustling, working metropolis with some gorgeous medieval buildings tossed in.
In the afternoon, we took a 90-minute bus ride into Holland to visit The Floriade exhibition. We were there just a few hours and, while we were gone, our ship moved ports so that when we left The Floriade, we only had a 45-minute ride to meet our ship - and were further north on the Rhine.
Now, The Floriade. What we'd expected to see were flower gardens akin to Bouchart Gardens; what we saw were some pavillions with some beautiful displays, for sure, but much of The Floriade is about sustainability, and showcasing what a particular country can deliver.
Overall, we were disappointed in the exhibits. Glad we went, of course, but considering this is something that only happens every ten years, we were expecting more.

Candy. Sorry about the flowers. But the hot chocolate and bundling sounds heavenly. Thanx again for this. I'm on the trip and digging it
