So we woke fearing a horrendous day..and we we're pleasantly surprised! Tuk tuk to airport was short and sweet on check in she gave us our vouchers for the lounge - no idea what this meant I just nodded.
We found a pin hurray! Cheeky devils had 80,000 kip for it which is £6.20!! Haven't paid more than a £1 for one yet..but needs must. Anyway we got to this airport lounge..wow..free beer..free drinks..free cake! We'll food but I had 3 pieces of chocolate cake a brownie and cheesecake.
Made a friend and discussed travels and such. Bangkok airways is my new fave I've decided. Also met a 77 year old woman who sleeps in form rooms in hostels and has been travelling for 4 years- hero!!!
Flight was only an hour and 15 mins.
Back to Bangkok...for the 4th time haha.
Stopped In a lovely hotel..lost out heads at the moment though we only booked one night and everywhere was fully booked because of songkran..took a while but found somewhere for the next 2 nights.
We spent the night pottering around pat pong - fond memories.
Next day we treated ourselves to a big meal of chicken wings proper ones! Caught the sky train and did some shopping. Songkran doesn't officially start until 13th so thought maybe we'd be ok to go shopping. Thank god I'd cautiously put my phone in a waterproof bag. Within 30 seconds of walking near the koh San road we we're atacked by about 50 water guns Absolutly soaked and covered in clay. The whole place turns into a street festival. It's SO MUCH FUN! we brought some water guns to join in and spent the day just walking up and down getting soaked. An old man tricked me hugged me and said happy new year then squirted me straight in the face. Music blaring and everyone was having a good time! Got a taxi back to the hotel later and put our stuff out to dry.
13th April..the big day there's huge buckets of water even outside the hotel! Id prepared with 2 waterproof bags bikini on and rave paint war stripes. Armed with our water pistols we headed on out..
We headed down to siem square..insane. Roads we're blocked off and it was just this huge parade of Buddhas being blessed and a full on water gun war. I've never experienced anything/ seen anything like it. At one point mart being white and tall (this wasn't really a tourist area) he was a massive target and had about 30 people aiming for him. The thai people like ice cold water by the way. The more you are blessed the better it is..so there was a lot of thank you happy New Years from us.. We walked up and down the street In just a constant haze of water and laughter occasionally stopping to refill my water gun. We blessed some Buddha Statues and got a tuk tuk to pat pong. Here was even more mental.
There was the fire brigade with their hoses just soaking people..we heard a lot of people whooping across the road and we saw the police getting absolutely ruined by water guns. It's pretty weird seeing military and police officers with real guns and then giant water guns too. We carried on down and then found an area with crazy music beer and fire trucks people just dancing and raving in the rain getting blasted by the fire hoses!
Can't explain how much fun we had..as we'll as the water being a blessing there was also the buckets of clay water which people wipe all over your face..also good luck. By the end of the day we we're a clay sodden happy drunken mess of people. If every day could be songkran the world would be a better place! I don't understand why everyone doesn't come to Thailand for songkran..was probably the best day of our travelling so far!!
Got back and had the longest shower and put all out stuff outside to dry ready for our flight to Macau tomorrow morning :)
