Love the freedom of not knowing where you are or where you are going be...after a night in airlie beach we manage to blag to keep rosie in a car park of a hostel for free (you were meant to pay) we hid her in some bushes while we were gone..loads of massive green ants around ive ben told jf you lick their bum it tastes of lime? more than 4 people have told me this! anyway we set off for our whitsundays trip. The boat the British defender. Good bunch of people the boats captain was a bit of a weirdo though. We all called him captain smack- the sea had clearly aged him.
Loads of food loads of snorkelling which was absolutely beautiful saw terry the turtle and swam with him for ageeeeees!
The sun went down and I have never seen a sky like it..it looked like someone had thrown glitter into the sky or we were sitting in a giant snow globe full of stars-lots of shooting stars so plenty of wishes were made. We got to know everyone over a few boxes of goon. Turns out there were 2 lads from wolverhampton and a bloke calle pete who was ace he was 6 ft 100 with size 16 feet!! We even made a group goonacolada (this consisted of everyone tipping different goon into a saucepan)..had possibly the worst nights sleep though as the person in the bunk below us sounded like a power tool.
Woke early to set sail again..more turtles a BBQ for lunch some beers and then we headed to Whitehaven beach!
The most beautiful thing Ive ever seen. Did a bush walk to the lookput point which has the best photos and then onto the Best beach hands down..the sand is like walking on powder and the water is so clear! Being mostly silica the sand never gets hot and its so white..Also cleans your jewlery really well so o have shiney rings.Lots of stingrays in the sea though, we noticed them when we wete olaying a group game in the sea and i saw all the boys running out-they were pretty big though. Then we came back on board set sail again and sat down watching the sunset with some beer listening to Mumford and sons- beautiful. We saw some dolphins and even a small humpback whale! Wen moored in the middle of the sea outside hayman island..the power tool bloke was snoring so bad mart went to sleep on deck but got scared by all the splashing sounds. We did see many reef sharks using torches. Woke in the morning for one final snorkel. I nearly didn't go in buy im so glad I did..saw 4 turtles and one was absolutely gigantic the bloke reckoned he was around 90 they were scared easily so I swam with them for so long watching them get annoyed with the fish hitching a ride on their back!
Route around the whitsunday islands:
-ravene cove
-hooks passage
-mackerel bay
-esk island
-tongue bay-Whitehaven beach
-Langford reef
We left airlie beach unfortunately an I had my first turn at driving Rosie. All was going well- lots of sun cream on the right arm. Then it got dark and I've never been so scared bloody kangaroos jump out at you from everywhere and it's so dark! I made mart swap with me as I actually thought I was going to have a heart attack if I had to swerve to miss another skippy!!
By the end of tonight we will have reached 1770 where I can have my surf lesson tomorrow!
We decided to stop over at rockhampton to save the lives of many kangaroos and probably us!
