Rainbow beach is a lovely little place beach is so long. We stayed on the car park of the hostel and went in on the night to drink and charge things. Showers were taken down at the beach. Had a briefing about Fraser Island the largest sand island in the world..had to watch a terrible video about staying safe by dingos and all about not swimming in the water because of sharks rip currents and jellyfish.
We were split into 4 groups of 8. There was me mart 5 girls from Manchester and phil who was from wolvo.
Mart drove the 4x4 first (it's very different driving it on sand). We drove around down the beach blasting the music. It was very hot. Stopped off at lake wabby which was down a huge sand dune. You can't swim in the sea but you can swim on the fresh water lakes.
Our tour guide was an absolute hero. His usual instructions for driving the 4x4s were "right we've got soft sand coming up put it into first keep it moving and rev the s*** out of it".
Went to camp..had a dingo fence which was cool.
That night was so messy. There was another group there too. We cooked dinner (we really felt like we were on ship wrecked) and then the goon came out.now neither me or mart have a full memory from that night but what we do remember was hilarious. The lads from the whitsundays were there. We played ring of fire. Mart ended up naked standing on a table and I threw my drink on him (in a funny way).
I decided I wasn't using the toilets anymore because of all the huntsmen spiders so weed in a bus and woke mart up in the night tellig him I needed to be sick but needed a dingo buddy to go with me.
Next morning we drove around the island some more stopped at Eli creek (it was a lazy river essentially) loads more driving around on bumpy off road tracks. Went to a place called Indian head which was a trek up a small mountain (none of us had shoes on and it hurt) it overlooked most the island and we saw turtles stingrays sharks and dolphins from the top. Went to a place called champagne pools (the sea made pools of water) which was heaven to sit in.
The night was slightly quieter..my goon coma clearly wasn't working though as we didn't sleep much as we were cold. Funny the difference of how I react to animals in Australia -lots of tent checks. Things can kill you here!
Last day up early an headed to lake Mackenzie. Beautiful whit sand and blue fresh water. The track in and out was mental proper off roading was so bumpy but was a really good laugh. Mart phil and Marti (a Dutch lad we'd met) decided to drink goon from 8:30am and have a toast with Jd at 10pm that day. Safe to say they were all a little worse for wear. Quick nap in the car and drove to noosa- only for the after noon where we head to Brisbane!
