New years eve had arrived...only been talking about this day for about 3 years!
woke up pretty excited watched a few films did abit of sunbathing..we then got a cheap bottle of champagne and the lads came around.
all 6 of us had a champagne toast and had a few drinks at the apartment before we departed. quick taxi down to as close to circular quay as we could go as all the roads were blocked off. Walked on down to opera bar. swapped our tickets for wrist bands and headed on in about 6pm. They certainly had made it beach themed with sand everywhere they had surf boards photo booths they printed photos out for you, free flower garlands i got covered in glitter.. we picked a good spot for the fireworks and started listening to the live band, all the old classics, gets abit hazy but i remember tlc no scrubs being played.
i of course was in my element as we spent new years eve with fred weasley (real name olly) and his fiancee! turns out the lads had met him in melbourne as he had xmas dinner with the english barmy army and had come to sydney to watch the ashes too..lucky us! i got drunk and mart asked him if i couldhave a photo as i was too shy.
we all made sure we didnt talk about harry potter to him he was actually really sound telling us about his travels around australia..it was all going well until parkes dropped out the worst wizard joke ive ever heard... it went something like..we need more drinks..cant u magic some up as your a wizard. it went down like a led balloon.
champagne was the cheapeast thing to buyand we all had a great time! 9pm fireworks came and went gave us a little taster..they had aeroplane shows and gave out loads of free sunglasses!
it all gets a little hazy but midnight fireworks will leave a lasting impression on my mind. they were breathtaking, i had my camera out in full force but i was so drunk i couldnt keep still to take the photos. mart helped steady me and i took about 4000 and 10 turned out wonderful!!
we carried on partying and eventually went home around 3am...we adopted a girl called cassie from san fran as she had lost her bag and all her friends. alex fell a little in love. she was great though!
woke the next day in a haze and had just enough time to get ready in my beautiful white dress and black facinator id been waiting for long to wear...time of the races. beautiful weather, great friends.
we all joked that we'd found ''the jane of australia'' this lady on the table next to us was the nicest lady in the world., called shelia! she brought us food and was telling us about her travels when she was younger, even discussed wedding plans with her haha!
unfortunatley as mart was so happy he wasnt keeping an eye on how much i was drinking, i picked a winning horse mr.scary...5 bottle of champagne later im being sick on alex in a taxi and on my dress! they put my by the toilet being sick and carried on out! when they got back at midnight i sat up and thought it was time to go out for food..unfortunatley not.
day after the races was a productive day as my phone had died so spent the entire day in the apple shop booo.. next day we did a pub crawl around the rocks watching the ashes and met up with dav lester parkes hannah etc went to bar 100 and back to the argyle!
next day we spent the day sunbathing on bondi beach...then went to lush the bar we went to xmas day..first time id seen alex struggle with beers as he heaved when he took his first sip haha. that night we had a fairwell meal with the lads at the meat and wine company..JB (thats parkes boss) came too..he made a speech just before the food came just about how his trip had been amazing and how we should take all these memories we have made and bottle them up where no where else can get them, that way you can reach the bottle whenever you want.
we laughed at the time but its really stuck with us..whenever theres a moment now or an amazing view..it goes in that bottle!
5.1.14 - spent the day sunbathing in rushcutters bay..this led on to snakebite sundays at o'malleys in kings cross. as soon as we walked out of the train station a man started shouting at mart to give him his flip flops haha. jugs of snakebite were $8... it ended up very very messy..i had a lovely pie face at the end of the night!
6/1 - sunbathing coogee and then we spent the night at the sydney tower cocktails and jd with a beautiful revolving view
7/1 - we chilled in the day and then caught the train across to milsons point, got there a tad too early as it wasnt dark enough yet..so we got a few big bottles of beer in brown paper bags and went and sat on a park bench admiring the view...that definatley went in the bottle. alex put on his holiday tune 'shuffle' and we took lots of photos just before it started raining. we then went to a few pubs in the rocks!
8/1 - alex's last day, started winding down...couldnt decide what to do as it was cloudy, alex wanted to go to the rocks for one last time..got a little drunk stayed in watching films and playing music eating pizza and icecream. we made a gin cocktail and everyone was smashed haha. that reminds me...somewhere along the lines i missed the part where before we went out on a nightout me and alex watched click and started crying haha!
9/1 - alex left...it was really sad....alex cried...mart cried. but its only 5 weeks until were all reunited again...thailand style.
next few days we packed up the apartment and cleaned...we got the train to circular quay and checked into the 4 seasons. was so hard leaving that apartment :(
4 seasons was delightful had a beautiful view of the harbour...i woke up at 5am the one morning and watched the sunrise over one of my most favourite places in the world. we went to opera bar for one last time and the next morning we checked out waved goodbye to sydney and made our way up to terrigal on the train. mart is working for one last week and im just reading books to occupy my time and update this of course!
next plan of action (blog is starting back up frequently now!) friday fly to perth..maybe rent a campervan and do west coast? then perth again...fly to adelaide...barrossa valley yes! then great ocean road to melbourne and our australian adventure is over. so so sad!! i love this place!! im terribly excited for asia but i am just so sad to leave sydney could of stay in the place forever...also very upset its going so quickly!!! booo!!
least we will be nice and tanned in perth!
