Well we are now back in smelly dirty Bangkok.we have spent the last 24 hrs travelling and could really do with a day of rest but got alot to fit in today so we willjust have to rest in Singapore instead!
So what amazing things have the adventurers been up to since Chiang Mai? Well, lots to be honest! Weleft the lovely Chaing Mai in search of some sunshine and a chill out session after the long hard treck. We flew to Phuket. we thought the2 days saved in travel were worth way more to us than the 40 ponds we would have saved. So onto what i think is the 7th flight in 3 months and 2 hrs later we were hapily in Phuket. We also managed tosend home lots more junk we no longer need and ALL of the many things we bought in the markets. withmuch lighter bags we fell straightinto a mini bus which took us straight to the hostel. none of the flapping aroung like our arival in Bangkok! Thankfully!
the 3 daysin Phuket were rather uneventfull. we had no idea what we wanted to do so had booked a hostel in town ( if you ever go to Phuket, never stay in the town, i makes Bangkok look clean and presentable!) aine has been rather poorly with some rather vicious bug bites, something nasty really seems to like her! Strangely tho they were not interested in me. So after a few trips to hospital (they don't have doctors) and antibiotics we made the most of the opportunity to recover and do sweet F. A for a few days. We both slept alot, Aine really needed to after all the things we had been up to. We went to Paong beach for a day. that was an experience not to be repeated! A bit like Phuket town but with a strip of sand next to it! there is no beach to sit on just rows and rows of sun loungers and umbrellas, which you had to pay for! Was no impressed. and when we thought that a drink was a good idea we were shocked that a coke at the bar cost more than a large beer in Chiang Mai. We stayed the day so we could say we had done something then surrendered and ran away as fast as we could!
After 3 days recovering in Phuket we decided it was time to move on to Ko Phi Phi. We ad been advised that Long beach was the place to go, and it really is. Totaly stunning beach, the beautifull long boats all lined up with the prety coloured scarfs tied around the front. Clear blue waters and even some sunshine! We were totally in awe of the place. just so stunningly beautifull and our lile bamboo hut which we could see the sea from the porch was a little basic but very sweet. (and very cheap) We spent the first day basking in the sunshine and doing very little. Then the clouds cane over and the weather was less than perfect! the beach still looked very nice in the rain but just not sunbathing weather! We both went and got a massage. Aine got a back and shoulders, I got my feet done. the girls were very good and i had to laugh when i lookd at Aine to see thelittle thailady kneeling on her and Aine looking a little concerned! But with nothing broken and feeling much better and relaxed we were both suitably impressed!
The day after I went on a tour of the islands. Ko Phi Phi is split into 2 islands Phi Phi Don in the one with all the resorts and shops on with monkey beach and a few lovely coves and places to go see. Phi Phi Lai is the smaller national park island where I think they filmed some of 'The Beach" No one lives there but the beaches are even more sunning, if a little harder to get to. Aine could bot get her bites in the sea so I sadly had to leave her behind for a day, Was the saddest thing I have had to do in the last 3 months, felt like someone had taken away my right arm but we both survived the day and I ook lots of pictures so she didn't miss out too much. I met 3 lovely Irish ladies who took pity on me and let me tag along with them for the day which basicly involved lots of snorkeling in cloudy water, lots of photos of beaches and rocks and a little bit of canoing, Oh, and I got bitten by a monkey!
The day after that, it rained, lots, and lots, then it rained some more! We decided we had to see the town and shops before we left and we also needed to book our fery to Ko Samui so we just put on the smalest shorts and strappy tops we had and an anorack! We were totally soaked through bty the time we got off the taxi boat! Was good fun but was the first time we had been cold in 3 weeks. Torrential rain. no escaping it, so we went for the bars and then walked along the island back to our litle bamboo hut and a warm shower.
We then spent a whole day travellingon various boats and bussed to Ko Samui where it was still raining! WE were a little concerned that the lovely idea of island paradise might be a little screwed by the rain! Fortunately the weather improved greatly and we spent 5 lovely days on the island hiring scooters, seeing waterfalls, finding new and interesting places to eat and drink and generally having a lovely time. We moved hostels after 2 days as there were cockroaches in the rooom and we were a little further away from where we wanted to be than planned. the second hostel had far fewer bug, replaced by a gecco! we had a good time and spent some hours on the beaches, saw the 'big buddah' and took the day ferry to Ko Pah Ngan where we hired another scooter for a day and saw some even more amazing beaches and got slightly burnt. Apparently factor 30 is not strong enough here!
We had the most amazing time which could only have been improved if we had longer here! So that brings us to yesterday which i have said we spent the last 24 hrs traveling and arrived back in On Nut hopefully to catch up the last few things we didn't see last time we were here.
Hopefully the next update will be from Singapore, then it will be time to meet the lovely Mr York for the new adventure of Vietnam. Time is going so quickly so off to make the most of the last few days in Thailand. Love to you all and se you all in a matter of weeks! xxx
