Playa del Carmen - Back to civilization1st four days - Danni's blog: Spent the entire time in the hostel bed sweating, feeling SOO ill and trying to sleep but failing. - Aidan's blog: Awesome. Spent a day diving in caves in the underground water system. It was totally cool swimming the caves, coming up in airpockets and seeing the light refract through the water. I also did some dives off the coast, one of them a wreck where you could go through the hull and in the cabin. Pretty sweet. Also did a couple of dives at Cozumel, which Jack Custo once said was one of the top ten places in the world to dive. One of the reefs was at the edge of a wall where there was a drop that went to the bottom of the ocean. As you swim over it you get a slight feeling of vertigo. The night life was pretty cool to, once you found the nicer places away from all the American tourists. Unfortunately Danni was in bed for all of this!2nd halfDanni got better and we managed to hitch a ride with some divers to one of the cenotes (caves) and snorkelled for free. We managed to snorkel from one cave to another and in part there was just enough room above water for the top of the snorkel - scary but cool. We also spent days visiting ruins in the jungle (Coba) cycling along 1000 year old roads and climbing to the top of the highest ruin in the area. Another day we visited the ruins at Tulum which were once a port and after being eaten alive we were able to go for a swim. The sea was quite choppy and it was comedy watching old ladies trying to go swimming and getting crunched by the waves. Now its off to Belize, Caye Caulker, for some awesome diving and lots of sunbathing!!
