Hi from Alice Springs. Well we have really lucked on some warm weather here. The 3 days we have been here it has been between 25 and 30. We get all our washing done (the hotel has a great wee self serve laundry with a clothesline).
Mark takes Emily for her first time in the pool (which isn't heated!) It is cold and she doesn't go in fully and there are no complaints! There were a few squeals from Mark though!
We are really loving Alice Springs. The town has a nice feel about it and the people are friendly. The Westpac bank is super modern (the money pops out of the table), the Woolworths has trolleys that hold a drink and have handles and there is free Wi Fi everywhere.
We wake on our first morning and head out for breakfast. Page 27 is a funky little cafe in a wee arcade. Emily and I share the spirulina soaked bircher muesli with rhubarb and yoghurt - yummo. Mark advises that he won't be changing nappies any time soon. The coffee is so good we have seconds!
The rest of the day we spend relaxing around the pool before heading to a local pub for $10 schnitzel night.
We visit the Olive Pink Botanical Gardens. It is hot so before having a look around we get coffee and cake at the cafe. Emily gets her first babychino and is rather unimpressed. The coffee is delicious as is the banana cake. The gardens are pretty arid. They are intriguing and unique, not your traditional gardens and not something we have experienced before. We really enjoy climbing up Alice Myer Hill for a view of the gardens and Alice Springs. Emily sleeps on Marks back. The day is hot and we are really feeling it by the time we finish.
The next morning we wake early and take a walk up Anzac Hill the following day for another view of Alice Springs and take a walk around the town.
Later we visit The Reptile Centre and handle a blue tongue lizard and frill necked lizard. We are offered the chance to hold a 3 metre Python that is only a young'un at 5 years old (he will grow to 5 metres. William doesn't want to hold it so Mark puts him around his neck and I decide to give it a go. Turns out I wasn't as relaxed as I thought I'd be and it took a few moments to relax! We patted Ruby the goanna, saw lots of geckos, thorny lizards, frogs and crocodiles. We really enjoyed the visit.
We plan to spend a bit of time in this area on our way back down and will visit Uluru and the McDonnell ranges then when hopefully it's a bit warmer to camp.
