Waking up to more money issues wasn't part of the plan and we thought that was over when we left Venezuela, but nothing a quick trip to the cashpoint couldn't solve.
The landlady from last night woke up in just as a foul mood as she went to bed and after about four different conversations we finally were able to book a taxi to take us to the airport. Thankfully the taxi driver spoke to us and after realising we didn't have a ticket he took us to a different building where we had to buy a ticket beforehand. It turned out you cannot buy tickets at the airport so we would have been in a lot of trouble.
It was only when we arrived at the airport we understood why. Having thought Cuidad Bolivar was the worlds smallest airport we were quickly mistaken. It was literally the size of a shed with a couple of toilets. What made our wait even more interesting was that the staff all left for two and a half hours for lunch so we were the only people there. Playing cards made the time fly by and the plane soon arrived. The size of the airport was again matched by the size of the plane, carrying a couple more people but in single rows. After a stop off,we got to Trinidad to be informed our connecting flight had already left. We sat in the airport restaurant watching limitless on the iPad and shared a steak which was cheap as chips. Finally with our last flight we arrived in La Paz!
This is why we came travelling, despite the cold, the room was something you would pay a lot of money for back home. Plus it has hot water so we are ecstatic!
The lonely planet book suggests the nightlife is good so we crossed the road to a restaurant sharing spaghetti bolognese and a couple of beers. Tonight we are feeling so comfortable in La Paz and cannot wait to go exploring in the markets tomorrow.
