If I had no pulse I wouldn't be surprised. I'm too tired to check. I think it's pretty likely as my fingers are moving over the keyboard. I taught the WHOLE day. Yes, from 8:30-4:30 with one hour for lunch and one 30 minute break to pee and move rooms.
Was it worth it? YES. The kids and I had another great day. They are really starting to move with these ideas and skills. It's wonderful that these teachers can see that even their kids can learn math and love it! I keep getting told that I have a lot of energy, and they wonder what I take in the morning to make it happen. I wish I could bottle it, I'd have a few gallons right now! I'm dead!
I thought in the beginning that I would be the one sharing all the ideas and it was up to me to make sure that everyone (kids, admin, and teachers) got what they needed. I've seen that just like a lot of my job, it's NOT ABOUT ME! HA! The teachers that have been coming to debrief with me and Jeff after sessions have really taught me a lot, and all I have to do is just give them an opportunity to ask questions and get answers from each other. HOW FREAKIN' INCREDIBLE! I love the fact that I get to take something away from this institute that will make me better at this job. I think I may be falling in love with Medellin.
I split from the group tonight and went out with some of the guys from the school. They took me to one of their usual haunts (and if you don't believe me, you can check out my picture on the wall at Aye Caramba, Parque Lleras HA!) to see the "sights" and have a few beers and talk about what it's like to live in Medellin and be an import teacher.
I have to tell you, we didn't get much of any kind of meaningful conversation, between the Aguardiente (which translates into firewater), and the beautiful women (which Colombia is FAMOUS for, if you didn't know). I had a great time and it reminded me of when Jorge and I would go out with his friends (which I'd hope are also my friends), only in English.
I walked home afterward and CRASHED, literally. My only saving grace was that I had all my lessons planned, and the walk was short. I was snoring by midnight, which happens to be about the average bedtime for me here in Medellin.
More Later!
