It was freezing all weekend, but Aoife and I braved the cold and headed out on the train to a chicago suburb called Bartlett. They have a man made ski slope out there and we wanted to spend the day there. As you can see we were wrapped up very warmly against the cold, but still by the end of the day we were frozen solid.
It isnt a big ski resort by any stretch of the imagination. They have one chair lift and 3 rope lifts. The rope lifts are awful as they pull your arm badly and tear your gloves apart. So we spent most of our time going up and down the chair lift. The runs were suprisingly fun, with a few steeper bits and lots and lots of snow.
The snow was the most amazing thing. In Europe in recent years when we have been skiing there has been a lot of icy patches. There wasnt any ice on these runs at all. The snow was soft and powdery and it made skiing a real joy!
On Sunday after church, I headed out to Naperville to meet some of my Grandparents friends who had moved to the US over 40 years ago. They had very kindly invited me out for dinner. It was fantastic home cooking with pot roast, potatoes, vegetables, salad and brilliant brownies for dessert. They were so interested in hearing all about my experiences both in Ireland and since I had arrived in the US. Their children and grandchildren were there as well and they were all so lovely and welcoming.
This week I have nothing much planned aside from lots of studying and preparation for the next few weeks of class. Because next weekend I finally turn 21!! And Aoife and I are heading to Orlando Florida to Universal studios for the weekend. We got an amazing deal on flights and decided to just make the most of it. Then the weekend after that my family are coming out to visit, so its looking like a very busy few weeks!!
