Sarah's Travels
Hi guys
I finally built up the courage to leave Perth after having been there for about three weeks!! I only intended to stay a few days but its such a relaxed and chilled out city and I was staying in a really friendly hostel...each time I came to leave someone managed to persuade to stay that little bit longer!!
So what did I actually do while in Perth? All the usual tourist things...Zoo, Aquarium, shopping, The Perth Mint, Kings Park and some more shopping oh and I can't forget some really great nights out to the local clubs and bars with the many friends I made at the hostel!! I also took a day trip with some of the guys to Cervantes and the Pinnacles (photos are now up on the website!!) The sunset on Cervantes beach was beautiful if a little windy. The photos don't really do it justice but it gives you an idea of what it was like.
I also took a job for a few days with an organisation called Wwoof (Willing Workers On Organic Farms). I stayed with a local family about an hour outside Perth and helped out for 3-4 hours a day on their Organic fruit and veg garden in exchange for my accommodation and food. The family (Sarah, Pete + three kids Jonah, Josh and Peter) were really nice and made me feel totally at home. I had my own room overlooking the valley and they introduced me to all the locals. One of the local guys Graham took me bush walking for a day in the Avon Valley which was incredible - apart from when I almost fell in the river trying to jump over rocks from one side of the river to the other. It was such a great experience that I'm trying to set something similar up for when I get to Melbourne next week.
Today I arrived in Adelaide on the Indian Pacific from Perth - another interesting experience!! It was a two day journey across the Nullarbore Plain - which gives a great indication to what we passed through - nothing! The name Nullarbore comes from the Latin for 'No Trees' which is exactly what we saw!! It stretches about 1200km from east to west between South Australia and Western Australia. WE did make a couple of stops, one in a place called Kalgoolie but it was 1am in the morning so although we were allowed off the train there wasn't anything to do. Another stop was at a place called Cook this was a little more interesting. It had a population of only 4 people and you could walk the length of the town in about 3-5 minutes but it was still the highlight of our day having been stuck on a train for 24 hours. We eventually arrived in Adelaide at 7am this morning and I'm now really looking forward to sleeping in a bed for a couple of nights after the plane style seats we have had on the train.
Tmrw I'm off to do a wine tour of the Barossa Valley :-) So it maybe a few days before I write again!!
I hope everyone is well
Love
Sarah
