Sarah's Travels
Hey guys
Its been a while since my last post, time seems to be getting away from me but have finally found time to catch you all up on my adventures.
Melbourne is a great city and I had a nice if a little cold time there. My first week was spent working for a family out in the suburbs of the city. They keep chickens and have a massive fruit, veg and herb garden, which is souly maintained by Julie (mother of the family). They take on people for a week at a time as and when work becomes too much for one person. It was a strenuous week but I enjoyed working out in the fresh air everyday and spending time in a family environment - hostels can get a bit much after some time and lack privacy. I had my own room and they fed me in exchange for my labour. They also had a five-month-old Jack Russel puppy called Gem (photo coming soon!) who was crazy (often chased her own tail!) but also adorable.
When my week of work was over, it was back to the big city for a few days to explore the sights and do all the touristy things, which included the obligatory Neighbours Tour. For those of you that are fans I could tell you the story lines for the next year...but I don't want to spoil it for you! It was a bit strange walking down 'Ramsey Street', which is an actual street, and people really do live in the houses. Apparently they are paid a nice amount for the use of their property. The rest my of time in Melbourne was spent trying to keep warm. The temp was about 8 degrees at its warmest and I had to go buy myself hat, gloves and a scarf to keep warm. If/when I go back it will be in the summer time!
I then flew to Brisbane (which is where I am now) and met up with two friends - Claire & Amy - I met all those weeks ago in Darwin. It was nice to see a couple of familiar faces and to go out for a few drinks to catch up. I also met up with my dad in Brisbane and we went to spend a few days on Hamilton Island, which is part of the Whitsunday Islands. The island is one big resort with every type of water sport you can imagine available as well as various other activities. Most of our time was spent relaxing and getting around the island on golf buggies which you hire while you are there. On one of the days we took a tour out to the barrier reef, which was just as good as the last time we went together about 10 years ago. It takes almost two hours to get there by boat and you spend the day on a pontoon diving, snorkelling or just watching the reef go by. My dad and I also managed to fit in a go at Para sailing in tandem, which was an amazing experience. Never thought I would actually enjoy it but we both did!
Anyway now back on the main land and about to fly back to Perth before starting my road trip up the west coast of Australia.
Hope you are all well and will catch up more once I reach my final road trip destination.
Love
Saz xx
