Hello from Shanghai!
Well carrying on from our last blog in Xi'an.... Today we have updated our pics which now include our visit to the terracotta warriors.... such a large site, it is unreal how the masses of statues were forgotton in time and only discovered again 30 years ago!!
I think we were quite lucky with our time of visit as the surrounding mountains and fields were all covered in snow .... which kirst was loving!!
The site was also very cleverly laid out so that you had to fight your way passed about 50 shops all trying to sell little warriors when you left.
We also explored Xi'an a little more on our last day including visiting some back street markets.... Lee was loving all the local food and did sample some of the street food... which fingers crossed hasn't poisoned him yet!!
A low point for kirst was when one of the market men decided to clean his fish stall out and threw the bucket of bloody fish water all over her shoes and jeans!..... Lee found it V funny..... especially when kirst started retching!!
Kirst is now officially a haggling master..... and is now successfully and without guilt able to squeeze the local sellers for every bit of profit available when it comes to silk goods!..... and now is the proud owner of a silk Kaftan and table runners.
We attempted to leave Xi'an on Friday.... after getting a little lost in the world's most manic train station, and after finding our train we set of for Shanghai on a 16 hour sleeper train..... This is one of the highlights now for both of us.... Such a good laugh... the only problem being Kirst doesn't like going for a wee (horrible squat toilets)... and now has super bladder control, although i dont think kirst will be able to avoid them on our next train ride 23 hours!!!... despite training hard!
So we arrived in Shanghai on Saturday lunch time feeling very knackered..... and lee feeling depressed with more snow!!
We have been out and about in the city which is very commercial, Kirst is loving it here and is now her favourite city. We have added pics today of what we have been up to ...
including a video of a tunnel which goes under the river to the bund (financial capital of Shanghai in the pics... tall towers!).... This tunnel is the most random thing we have ever seen so thought we'd share with you.... all i can say is its like a episode of Dr WHO!
Tonight we are going to see the Shanghai Acrobats which is supposed to be spectacular!!.... So we shall tell you all about it on our next blog.
OH... and just to confirm the BA plane that crashed ..... was the one that we had been sitting on just a few hours before..... SCARY!
Right going to do some more hard tourist sightseeing.... even though its snowing!
Again, thank you for all the messages..... nice to know people have realised we've gone.... if not missing us!
Take Care
Lee and Kirst xxx
