Its so nice to hear from everyone. Sorry i havent updated for a few days but we have been out of town to the great wall but no internet access.
Let me start with sunday!
On sunday we went to the summer palace, which you may have seen some of the pictures already up. This was amazing, we both really enjoyed it. We were suprised how big the palace was and i was so scared because we walked over a frozen lake! (Sorry mum!) Lee has now decided that he is not going to be an ice road trucker as the sounds of the cracking ice freaked him out. Especially when the sounds echoed around him.
We then went on to the temple of heaven which was also very nice but was slightly overshadowed by the summer palace. It was still amazing though.
On Monday morning we left Beijing to go to the great wall of china...oh yes the real one. It took us three hours on a freaky bus journey but it was amazing! When we arrived we saw a cable car which took you to the top of the mountain. We decided not to pay and walk instead which knackered me. The wall is amazing and the place that we went to had no tourists which was really worthwhile. The views were amazing and you could see for miles around. It was great also as this was the first time in china that we have breathed in fresh air, because of the smog in Beijing.
We left, and went to another section of the wall which was also really amazing. The challenge was to walk 10 towers...all uphill...steps the size of chinamen. Lee managed 12 cocky git. I managed...1! i know shameful. I have had a few problems with my asthma since being here in smog but ok now. The hostel that we stayed in last night was like china version of american motel. i was very sceptical on our arrival but it tured out to be the sweetest little place with the most amazing view. the beds were...Hard...Very Hard and we froze but that was my favourite place to stay yet.
The temperature today is colder than any day so far. It was 0c in our room this morning. and ouside must be -12c.
We are writing this quickly back in beijing where we are preparing for our first night on a sleeper train! Totally freaky. There is no escape from the squat toilets now!
Will hopefully be able to update again tomorrow but may not be until thursday. Depending on facilities in Xi'an. Miss you all lots.
Give my love to linda!
