g'day mates. Hope you don't mind the emails..they are going to be travel journal because so far i can't be bothered to write in my journal.
Had the most exhilarating experience yet. Yesterday i went sailing. It was so lovely! Never been sailing before. The views were gorgeous. The ocean was a turquoise blue. And along the coast were golden sand beaches and the abel tasman national park. After about two hours sailing i was dropped off at the anchorag town entrance to the abel tasman hike.
I was alone on the trail. Very peaceful. Had the ipod on shuffle. Felt great. The beginning was the toughest part, getting up the hills. Throughout the trek were lookouts and views of the empty beaches and ocean. The trail would wind in and out of the bush along the cliffs..so it was like playing peek a boo with the ocean. Looked sort of like rainforest. There were creeks and waterfalls. I walked the 14.5 km in 3.5 hours. I don't know how many miles that is. Finished the last bit on a beach track and ended in marahau town. Woo!
Traveling alone so far has been a different experience. One that i am happy to have. Without much communication or spoon fed entertainment or media- no internet newspaper tv no phone calls home.. I am left to my own thoughts. I embarked on this journey hoping that by the end i'd know more clearly what i want to do in my future. I am afraid it is just giving me more ideas! But as far as self exploration goes, traveling alone so far is very conducive to that. I recommend it if you are lucky to have the chance. Constantly on the move, out of your comfort zone, everything foreign. It is exciting and everyday is an opportunity to learn. I am excited for aus and se asia when things get more disorganized and ambiguous. Haha.
Well that is it. On a long bus ride to greymouth at the mo. Ill probably write again from franz josef where i may take part in a glacial hike!
Love,
April
