Over the past 3 days I have been sailing the Whitsunday Islands Now I am set to catch the bus up to Townsville & catch a ferry over to Magnetic Island! Where hopefully I can SCUBA DIVE ! ! !
Saturday 12th April After breakfast I checked in to 'Oz Adventure Sailing' and Wings (The Boat). Wings is a Sail & Dive boat where you can scuba dive at all of the bays, so this would be the start of many Barrier Reef dives over the next 2-3 weeks! When I got to the boat I had to fill out a scuba dive medical form. Diving the Whitsundays was not meant to be as I have Asthma!! They refused to let me dive! I explained that I have very mild asthma, triggered by hayfeever & that I am an experienced diver that has dived all over the world! He then explained that Queensland laws on diving are very strict & If someone answers yes on the form to any question they cannot dive unless a Queensland doctor has completed a dive medical & has given you permission to dive! At this point it was too late to get a dive medical so I boarded the boat very dissapointed & we headed off for the first dive site. I was having some bad luck & that continued as sea sickness made me feel really bad & queasy!
When we got to the first dive site 2 groups of divers went down & 1 group of snorkelers including me went over to the shallow reefs. Even though I wanted to dive, the snorkeling was amazing there were thousands of fish swimming all around us!! Things started to look up from there & I ended up having a great time, I was with a great group on the boat & quite a few of them didn't dive through choice! I got to snorkel at loads of different sites over the 3 days inc. Tounge Bay & Cataran Bay! Each night, after dinner we had a slideshow on a projector, where one of the guys would tell us where we had been on the map & a bit of biology on the fish down there too. We then looked at all of the photos that had been taken too & we were all laughing & joking at them! ha!
Early the next morning we got up at 5.00am to catch the sunrise on White Haven Beach! This was voted the 4th nicest beach in the world & I can see why! We chilled out on the beach & got to see some sting rays too! We stopped at 2 or 3 more dive sites to snorkel & headed back to Airlie Beach the next day! (Today)
The most important job now it to get my hands on a doctors note that confirms I can dive by Queensland laws! So I'm off to do this medical! wish me luck because if i don't get it I'll have a lot of diving to cancel!!
Love & Miss you All!!
