So I am now a fully licensed PADI open water diver! In doing so, I have sacrificed my mobile phone though! I am about to leave Magnetic Island today to watch a HUGE game of rugby league in Townsville! It's North Queensland Cowboys Vs Auckland Warriors!! AUSTRALIA VS NEW ZEALAND!! there are going to be some BIG HITS!! can't wait!!
Day 36/37 Last day in Airlie Beach/Maggie Island!! I spent some time booking some more hostels before heading down to the bar for the boat party! All the guys who were on wings were in the bar so I had a pretty cool night! Wasn't too late though because I had to catch the early oz bus the next day! After a Macky D breakfast we headed up to Townsville, It took us about 3-4 hours to get there, however I was on the bus with Shane, Damo & some of the other guys! When we got to Townsville we took the ferry across to Magnetic Island.
The hostel is AWSOME, It is literally on the beach with views that you would get in a 5 star hotel! As soon as I checked in, I told the staff that I was starting my scuba course tomorrow & needed a medical! They sent me straight down to the medical centre & after a full health check, they deemed me to be fit as a fiddle! In fact they were impressed with my fitness! HA!! I had my ears syringed to aid equalisation & my certificate printed! I was ready to dive...finally!! When I got back I had a few drinks with the bus group & some of the other guys on the beach! I randomly bumped into the 2 Will's, Beardo & Shavo! that was really cool to catch up with those guys!!
Day 38 I was up bright & early to start my diving course today! I went down to the hostel dive centre only to be told that the course didn't start today! even though reception told me otherwise!!! That collapsed ALL of my plans to skydive & fly to Alice Springs!! I don't think I am meant to dive here at all!!! With 10 mins to spare I called Damien & switched to the course he & Shane were on at a dive centre just down the road! When I got there I started my course!! It turned out that the course that I was meant to be on was not a PADI course but some Australian licence & the one I switched to was PADI certified!! So I started the course with some hardcore study, it's like being back at college, We watched videos, listened to lectures & even had homework!! It was QUALITY & I really enjoyed it. I breezed through the fitness tests including 12 lengths of their huge pool & 10 mins water treading! My smile got even bigger when the hostel refunded me $300 for their mistake!
Day 2 of my PADI course & we jumped straight in the pool, with my phone in my pocket :-( We were doing skills such as fin pivots, free flowing reg & emergency ascents! We did our first 2 open water dives in Alma Bay too, the visibility was low but we managed to get all of our skills & tests done! More homework too! Day 3 & we did 2 more open water dives in Alma Bay, Today the visibility was better & I got to swim with sting Rays!!! We spent the afternoon studying & took our final exam to get our licences! I scored a cool 94% & became a certified diver!
So now to celebrate & what better way than a world famous full moon party!! A load of my mates flocked in for the party so I got to catch up with everyone!! IT WAS WICKED! Add face paints & glow sticks to the mix & you can probably imagine that we had a good night!
Cant wait for the Rugby tonight & on Monday I am jumping out of a plane!!(with a parachute!)!! Rock'n'Roll
Nearly Home, I Love & Miss you All!!
