I am now in Cairns, The last stop before home! I have just over a week left in Australia! Tomorrow we go up to Cape Tribulation - A slight change to my original plans. Cape Trib' is deep into the rainforest further north than Cairns, you can zip wire over the rainforest & jump into the lakes from serious heights! Today I also confirmed my advanced open water dive course for Thursday!! can't wait!!!
Tuesday 22nd April I was up surprisingly early this morning, I went across to the shopping centre opposite the hostel to try and sort my mobile phone out! After taking it to pieces, the guy deemed my phone to be useless! everything was corroded inside the phone! It wasn't all bad though, he sold me a new, unlocked phone for my sim card - dirt cheap!! I jumped in a taxi & headed for the Airport for my flight. The journey to Alice Springs took just over 2 hours, again, my ipod saved the day!
There isn't all that much to do in Alice Springs! For my first night I took a wonder around the main street & played my guitar! Early night too because I had to be up at 5.45 to get on to the safari bus!
Wednesday 23rd / Thursday 24th April Due to a 1/2 hour time difference from Cairns to Alice Springs, I was up 30 mins too early!!! I managed to find the Champions League Semi-Final live on tv while i was waiting for the bus - so it wasn't too bad! 0530 & the bus pulled in, It took us 5 hours to get from Alice Springs to Uluru. It gave us plenty of time to get to know each other, the group I was in were AWSOME & it made the trip 10x better! We got to camp, had some food & headed off for our first walk! We went down a HUGE valley in Kata Tjuta, it was AWSOME! We got back from the walk & watched the sunset at Uluru (Aires Rock) it was unreal! That night we set up camp...ha...we had a huge uncontrollable camp fire & instead of cabins or tents, we had swags! swags are glorified sleeping bags that allow for accommodation under the stars!
After the first night we were up at 0500 again! this time to catch the sunrise at Uluru - which was AWESOME!! I can't explain it - the rock changed colour as the sun rose up! Once the sun was streaming out we did the base walk of Uluru. We learned of Aboriginal culture, stories & Tjukurpa! We walked through puli, karu & Ngaru. We were shown these caves where the Aboriginals held ceremonies & taught patience & discipline.
We drove to Kings Canyon & set up camp for another night under the stars! That night we had music & we all cooked our food on the camp fire - marshmellows'n'all! We had an awesome night & took some cool photos!
Friday 25th April Yet another early start today for the last time on safari. The trip was AWSOME & has been one of my favourite trips so far! This was mainly down to the group we had. We drove to Kings Canyon for what was the best walk! we climbed up to the top of the canyon & walked around it! The views were AMAZING! after that walk te took the 5 hour journey back t Alice Springs! Our group all went out in Alice Springs that night to Annie's Bar - After some food, we were all making some noise laughing & joking to the early hours! yess!
Saturday 26th April My flight back to Cairns doesn't leave till' 5.00pm! 4 of the other guys in the group were on the same flight so we hung out in Alice Springs for most of the day. There was a band playing in the main street & we stopped for some food! One of the other guys was just as enthused about music as I am, so I had someone to talk to!
When we got to the airport I had my rugby ball with me. For the amount of fuss Quantas made over it, you would have thought it was a bomb! 5 separate members of staff stopped me & enquired about the ball! When I was on the plane the cabin crew came & took it out of the overhead bin to show the captain!! One of the crew got really stressed about it & had a right go at me!! I ended up getting a full apology from Quantas & my ball was personally delivered to me at Baggage reclaim!! What was all that about????
That Night we all went out & I got to catch up with Andy, Will & Mike, We had a pretty cool night & I got to watch some football as the Chelsea & Newcastle Games were on in the bars!
So I am off to Cape Trib' tomorrow to do some zip wire(ing) I shall see you all really soon!!
Love & Miss you all!!
