After Byron we headed up to a place called Surfer's Paradise. This is a wicked mix of a perfect beaches but the hustle and skyline of a big city. We only had a couple of days here so we went to Wet'N'Wild and spent the rest of the time walking around the city, sitting on the beach (and drinking).
We then headed north to Brisbane to wait out the cyclone which was halting our trip to Fraser Island. Brisbane is a cool city, and I got pretty over-excited that I could see the IBM and Oracle offices from my balcony. But there wasn't a huge amount to do - so after a couple of days hitting the goon we decided to visit Noosa till we got the all clear for Fraser.
Noosa is an amazing little town with a huge nature reserve. As we arrived they were feeling the tail end of the cyclone - which meant massive waves for the surfers - and also lots of rain. This wasn't a major problem and we still got to do a wicked walk through the forest and saw some big spiders.
From Noosa we got confirmation that Fraser Island would be reopened over the weekend. We headed up and were put into a group of 10 (who were an amazing bunch) and given a big 4x4 and camping gear for the 2 days/2 nights we would be there. We had such an amazing time - apart from one hour of rainfall on the first night it was clear and sunny and most of the island had been reopened. We got to see the shipwreck and all the best lakes - including one with a huge sand hill you can roll down into the water. On the 2nd night our group found a small part of the beach and camped alone with a bbq and a few box's of goon. The most amazing thing about fraser is how many stars you can see as there is no light pollution - and we spent about an hour looking up at how many shooting stars we could see.
We arrived back from Fraser yesterday and have just arrived from a 13hour night bus into Airlie Beach. Tomorrow we sail around the islands for 2 days before heading north to Mission for the Skydive! All photos are going up on faceyb so take a look.
