So the flight(s) here were actually not as bad as I had expected - a mix of valium and a fantastic choice of films made it pretty bearable. I arrived in Sydney on Sunday morning pretty jet-lagged and a bit spaced out. Spent the day wandering around Sydney in a daze - it's a wicked city with loads of quirky attractions - walked through a tiny chinese park right in the centre of loads of skyscrapers where I met a huge lizard... (photos to follow)
Spent Monday in Bondi beach with a couple of my room mates where I got burnt to hell and realised that I don't have a natural ability with Surfing and should probably stick to my football. Took the 13!!! hour nightbus to meet Damo and Ells in Byron Bay Monday night- again not as bad as I had expected as I was seated with a pretty cool group of people who enjoyed my appreciation for inappropriate humour.
Byron Bay is amazing - it's a small town but full of travellers, and it's nice to have met up with elly and dame. We spent our first day in the sea and our first night drinking too much at cheeky monkeys. Today we rented a car and drove out to a lake where we heard there was a small waterfall where we could swim - After some exploring through the woods we found this AMAZING secluded little pool with a wicked fall where we spent a few hours jumping in and swimming around. After some concern that there might be a crocodile (or a dog?) in the water, damo also got involved.
Just had a BBQ and a fire dancing show at the hostel which was pretty cool - going to get an early night in preparation for the next couple of nights which are meant to be heavy. Then heading up to Surfers Paradise for a few days on Saturday before heading onto Brisbane and doing fraser/whitsundays.
Will update in a week or so and get some snaps up too!
