Cape Reinga...the most Northern (the one that the Marois adopted anyway) point in New Zealand. This is where they come to let the spirits of thier loved ones pass off into another life. It's a b***** to get there as not all the road is paved-making a bumpy ride in the hrie car-but I made it. A very pretty but lonely view out to nowhere...except Australia, but thats a long way away and off to the left somewhere.
After walking aroudn the lighthouse there isn't much else to do, so off I went again, stopping off for an ice cream on the way as it was a really sunny and hot day-unusual for NZ I thought! I had a drive around Doubtless Bay and stopped off at Ahuroa Island-a tiny Kiwi Sanctuary at the end of a equally tiny and beautiful bay. I didn't see any Kiwi;s-as they only come out at night-but I did have a nice walk along the beach.
Got to Paihia..my home for the next couple of days-and home to the Bay of Islands.
