10 o'clock in the morning? What happened? It seems like I just went to bed a few hours ago. That's right, I did. My free breakfast! Oh no. Hurriedly, I take a quick shower ( twice a day down here with the heat and humidity, throw on some clothes and blend into the breakfast group. Either I outsmarted her or she doesn't care. I like to think it was me. I have the usual, today pineapple. I'm finishing up the blog from last night, ready to download pictures and post when the hotel desk clerk tells me Cindy called and the bus for the fiesta leaves at noon. What bus? Nobody said anything about a bus. What time is it? 11:30? Go, go, go. I change my clothes, gather my stuff and out the door in 15 minutes. The taxi gets me there easily by noon for the usual, 70 pesos. I always carry my map of the house location and they always use it.
Well, the bus really doesn't leave until 1 so I hang out with mi amigos on the street for an hour, reminiscing of the night before. The beer is already flowing but it's agua this hombre. We board the bus with ac and start our journey to somewhere. We'll see.
We leave the city and head towards Chapala, past the airport to a small town out in the country. It is here that Richard, a neighbor of the family, has a ranch with a large outdoor patio. There is plenty of room, restrooms, a jumper for the kids, shade from the heat and a whole pig cooking in a cauldron. I'm told they remove the head and hoofs first but I think that's it. I stay busy taking pictures and socializing, avoiding the offers, "Did you get any food?". I'll wait for the tacos.
As always, the beer and tequila were plentiful, tacos great and the hospitality superb. It wasn't long before the Banda arrived for the music. The fiesta was in full swing. Here in Mexico, whether or not you want to dance, you're dancing. Everyone takes turns in the circle, surrounded by about 30 singing, dancing and drinking encouragers. I do my routine, a mixture of old tap dance moves, calisthenics and anything I can come up with to get throughout the 60 second torture session. Ah, it wasn't so bad, judging form their enthusiastic gestures and hollering. Of course, they were laughing and pointing but I got, "A cerveza for you!" Out of it.
This continued close to dark before the last of us piled onto the bus for the hour ride back to the house. I left immediately since I wanted to post yesterday's photos on the blog. It was difficult to catch a taxi this evening but after 20 minutes, I got one. 80 pesos to the hotel and that's good since at night the prices are always higher, more like 100.
The ride was good and I downloaded the photos and published the blog. I like it. It like talking to everyone but no one is really here. I don't have many pictures inside the fiesta since photographers covered everything and it was dark for my camera. It's 11:30 and I need to be at Martin's house for the flea market and some pyramid deal. It's just another adventure.
Lights out.
