Transylvania. Dracula country. The obvious choice of campsites was Vampire Camping (not that we actually had a choice!)
Went to have a look at Bran Castle which disappointingly has very little to do with Dracula; I was a little upset that they didn't give you complementary fangs at the entrance. There wasn't even any ushers in cloaks, dungeons or coffins. Alton towers does Dracula better than Transylvania! The very tenuous link is that Vlad Tempes once may have tried to attack the castle.
Still the castle is full of real history and is beautiful inside. It was occupied by the Romanian Royal family until the communist uprising so it is actually very stylish inside. Bran is right at the foot of the Carpathian mountains but still a little too far for a day trek so we need to move closer. Also Dave has been acting very strange - maybe it's the full moon..... time to move on!
Bongo not too well, think it's got a cold there's black snot everywhere!

wil my fave annecdote about czechs is this... after years of being persecuted by the police, army and security services, vaclev havel, playwrite, became president when the communists were ousted. his very first act? redesign the ceremonial uniforms worn by the crack soldiers used to guard the presidential palace - into the campest and most theatrical and ridiculous outfits ever seen on the military. what a superb revenge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%A1clav_Havel i know you've moved on tot he land of ground, indeterminate meat, but, hey, nice story. hope bongo is up and trotting. cheers, tony. take it easy: romanians provided, acording to primo levi, the most brutal guards at dachow and aushvitz...
