Bonjour from Paris!
It's the last day of our bus tour and not a moment too soon! Don't get me wrong - it was fun, but we're both over sitting on a bus! And we discovered that you don't get any time to yourself on an organised tour, so no e-mailing, no personal sight-seeing, no shopping. They tell you when to get up, eat, go to the toilet, take photos....you get the point! Good for an overview of Europe though, so you know where to come back to explore.
Day 1 London to Amsterdam. Somehow we managed awesome weather in London then it got worse from there, rained from Dover onwards! Only had a night in Amsterdam so we took some other Aussies for a guided tour and showed them the red light district (interesting) and a night canal cruise.
Day 2 Amsterdam to Frankfurt. Stopped in Cologne for lunch where it was absolutely pouring with rain! Can't remember much about Frankfurt it was that long ago now! I'll wrack my brains and fill you in later.
On second thoughts, I'll just give you an overview of my favourite places..!
Innsbruck, Austria - only there for an hour, but it is a beautiful little town and the view from every street is old, ornate buildings with snow-capped mountains in the background!
Lucerne, Switzerland - I was lucky enough to be here for my birthday, the weather was great, the people were friendly, the shopping and food were good and we went on a cruise of Lake Lucerne then train and cable cars on Mount Pilatus. Very cool! Birthday drinks at a revolving bar!
Paris - of course! Everyone loves Paris! The Rugby World Cup is on so the place is packed out with Australians (same as everywhere in Europe actually!). The Eiffel Tower was gorgeous all lit up and twinkling at night but my favourite is the Arc de Triomphe.
Now I'm off to Bremen to hang out with my bro and Carly is off a-drinking with her sis at the Oktoberfest.
One week to go! Au revoir!
