Well we're now fully qualified PADI divers and what a great experience we've had! It's been hard work, we've had tests and a final exam, lots of skills to learn in shallow water like taking our mask off, putting it back on and then emptying it, taking our breathing equipment out of our mouth underwater, breathing out and then using it again, navigating underwater and having our air turned off so that we know what it feels like and then using our buddys alternative air supply to breathe and go up to the top. All very exciting but nerve racking too!! Yesterday we did our first two open water dives, quite close to land and just 12 metres deep. These dives were great and we saw lots of big fish, lovely coral and the visibility was amazing (the best since September apparently!!). Today we had an early start, 7am, and we did our last two open water dives in the middle of the sea with no land for miles. One was 18 metres deep were we saw sharks (yes real reef sharks with big teeth and nasty faces) and the other was 16 metres deep were we saw clown triggerfish, sea snakes and moray eels. All in all we've had a fantastic time and hopefully we'll go on a fun dive when we're in Oz around the great barrier reef!
Tonight we go out for a well deserved celebratory drink with our group and instructor Matt who was brilliant. We're off to watch Thai boxing which will definitely be an experience. It's Thai versus American!!! Watch this space to find out who wins!!
Tomorrow morning we catch a boat to Surat Thani, on mainland Thailand, and we travel through Thailand to the border and into Malaysia. We have a fair bit of travelling to do over the next few days because we want to be in Singapore by Saturday so I'll speak to you when I can! Take care for now, lots of love from your two divers xxxxx
