The Surat Thani night boat was one to remember! Literally a long bed with numbers and about 70 people all laid next to each other. Unfortunately the girl next to Will didn't really fit very well in her allocated slot! This was the start of a pretty eventful day. We all piled into a Songthaew at 5am and got taken to an office to wait for our transport to Hat Yai. Hat Yai was the first screw up but it was our only choice to get into Malaysia as it was Songkran weekend (a Thai holiday which is just an excuse for Thais to get tourists soaking wet with water pistols!) and all other transport was fully booked. We arrived in Hat Yai where we were dropped for transfer right opposite the hotel that a bomb had exploded the week before! After a nerve wracking hour watching the military storming around we got on our bus to KL. Then the earthquake hit, I thought the driver was awful until we knew what was happening. Pretty cool feeling the tremors of an earthquake but everyone was a bit worried at the time. Eventually at midnight, after the most dangerous day yet we arrived in Bukit Bintang, KL!
Found a bargain right in the centre if everything for 40RM a night with air con and HOT showers! Ahhhh it felt so good after 3 weeks with none. Location was perfect, with 6 malls & the monorail all within 5 mins walking distance. Only thing was the 'unprofessional massage' shop downstairs so we had to weave through the prostitutes to get in.
KL is all about the shopping & the food. We didn't stop eating! Managed to squeeze in a little sightseeing to the Petronas twin towers and a drink up KL tower in the revolving restaurant. Visited Chinatown for more food and shopping and the rest of our time we just browsed the malls enjoying the feeling of civilisation! Berjaya times square mall was the best, with a theme park, an I max cinema and the cheaper Krispy Kremes in the world £3 for a box of 6! It was rainy season so we got caught out a couple of times in shorts and flip flops when it suddenly changed from bright sunshine. Last day we actually remembered the umbrella! I'm going to miss KL!
