We arrived at Long Street Backpackers just in time to see Brent and Kathy for five minutes before they left on there way to Johannesburg. On our first night we met some people and went across the road to a club Zulu where we stayed late. Next day we did nothing got up for lunch then went back to bed got up for dinner then bed not seen much of Cape Town yet. Monday determined to see something in Cape Town went through some very nice gardens to the art gallery it was closed. A bad weather forecast but we decided we had to do something and opted to climb up Table Mountain. It was very windy on the approach and I was a bit concerned we would not make it up. The weather however got better and better as we climbed. It was a steep hard ascent for a good two hours. We were rewarded once on top with spectacular views of Cape Town and around the weather had been kind. On the way down the clouds came over we had been really lucky on the top. Both of us felt a little tired from the climb. We were not too tired to stop us going out that night we managed to stay out until 5 am and were asleep after sunrise. We had had a good night with lots of people from the hostel Keeley danced the night away. We actually managed to get up before midday and headed to the art gallery which was now open. It was an interesting art gallery the hangover probably prevented full appreciation. We then headed into town to see if we could change flights to have a bit more time in South Africa. We could not without a big jump in price but the woman at Qatar Airlines was very nice bodes well for the flight. We also bought a tent to try to save some money while in South Africa. We had a quiet night stayed in the room to avoid temptation. We hired a car again for three days forgetting about our Namibia experience. The first day we headed to Stellenbosch with a guy from the hostel. We stopped at our first winery outside Stellenbosch at 9.15 am it was called Blauklippen and the wine was great. Not only that but the tastings were very generous as designated driver I had to be careful. The Malbec was fantastic the best we have tasted since Argentina. We then drove on to Stellenbosch pitched our tent and headed to another winery. This one was a great location sat on a balcony with mountains in the background and vineyards all around. The wine was not that great and Keeley was drinking hers and Geoff's as he was feeling a bit drunk after Blauklippen and I was skipping being the driver. Next we went for cheese and wine very good cheese and very good wine we bought another bottle to go with our Malbec. Last winery was one of the big tourist ones did not really like it treated you like cattle, Keeley did however enjoy the chili cheese. That night Keeley had a rest while I drunk some wine back at the hostel. In the morning we hit one more winery on the way to Franshoek a very nice winery in a great location the white wine was that good I bought a bottle of White! We then enjoyed the very picturesque drive to Hermanus through beautiful mountain passes. In Hermanus we dumped our bags at the hostel and headed to the cliffs. It was awesome so many whales and quite near sticking heads, fins and tails out of the water. It was tricky photography and spectacular to watch. Next day we went first to Bettys Bay to see some penguins. We saw some hiding in the bushes before we hit the gates and lots of Rock Hyraxes with young. We felt well pleased and went back to the car it did not start. No one was around and we had no reception for the phone. I hate hiring cars. We headed up the road in search of reception or a shop or anything no luck. We went back to the Penguin Colony where the people who worked there managed to help us push start the car. Hopeful the car was now going to work we drove along a beautiful bit of coast line to Cape Point Park. At our first stop in the park the car did not start again. Not happy. The park people gave us a push start again still no reception we did not want to waste our day so drove to Cape Point let the car parking guy know we would need a push start he seemed happy enough. We walked to the Cape of Good Hope a nice walk with lots of place for great photos. We then made it up to the lighthouse on Cape Point. Day done another push start back to Cape Town and got rid of the car. I am not hiring a car again. Next Baz Bus, so no driving for me.
