Hi There Everyone, hope you are enjoying our blogs. We have now been in Beijing for 5 days now and it has been amazing. We have seen so much. Friday when we arrived at the Happy Dragon hostel (which is one of the best hostels we've stayed in) we were greated by them inviting us to a Peking duck party where there will be free food and beer. We decided to go and yes there was free beer and food which we had to eat with chop sticks (we are pros at them now). We met so many people here, Austrailian, German, Canadian and English. After about 8 beers we were really drunk and took the party out side where we drank more and watched some of the people we met eat a Donkey Penis, This was discusting, they tried so hard to convince us it was nice and to try some but we knew better, plus it smelt like death. lol.
The next day (Saturday) we woke up very frigile with pics of Donkey Penis on our camera and people eating it. So we went to get a Maccys and some shopping. The suppermarket smelt really weird so we quickly left. we then went to Beijing City centre and to the food market where we saw Scorpians alive on sticks ready to be deep fried and eaten. The chinese eat so many different and crazy things, they eat beatles of some kind, sea horses, star fish and all types of amimals genitals. We are still not brave enough to try any. The city centre is so beautiful and the people are so friendly too.
Sunday - Today we went on the Beijing city tour where we saw so much culture and history. We learnt all about the different Dynasty's and emperors. We first of all visited the Temple of Heaven where the emperors prayed and sacrificed things for the harvest, it was very beautiful the workmanship is amazing which is constant throughout Asia e.g. India.
·We then visited the Forbidden City which is a whole city of amazing Chinese buildings where the emperor and his family and servants lived. It is so big and it has only been open to the public for a few decades.
·We then went the Emperors Summer palace where royalty would go in the summer it has the longest corridor in the world in its garden for the rainy season.
·We then went on a lovely Chinese boat across the river to the Emperors bridge where we were picked up by our driver and taken to the Silk Museum and the porcelain museum where they showed us how they made silk garments and where the silk comes from and how they make porcelain products.
·We then went to Beijing's Tea factory where we tasted four main Chinese teas and learnt their health values.
Monday - Today was the most exhausting but amazing day ever. We went and climbed the two major parts of the Great Wall of China. We had no idea how exhausting and scary this would be. If you do not like heights or physical activity this is not a trip to go on. First of all we walked 45 minutes to the great wall and then we started a 10km (6 mile) walk with just a sandwich for energy. When we heard it was 10km we thought ya thats easy, we'll just have to put up with the heat, but no when we got there, there was a lot more to it. we literally had to climb the Great wall and walk up so many steep steps, sometimes it was just like we were rock climbing with out the safety. We climbed and walked through 30 towers, and by the end of it we could not move. we drank about 2 litres of water each and which our body badly needed. The views were unbelievable it was so amazing we were so lucky to experience such an amazing thing. We were also so glad we went jogging before we went travelling and were fit enough to do it. it did take us a good 4 hours to do and we could not have done with out eachother, being alone on that wall would have driven us insane. we bounced off eachother well and were so glad to be together. when we got near the end I (Jenny) was very scared of crossing the wooden bridge which looked so scary, but Aaron said no we've done the wall which is the worst part the bridge will be easy. Then we got to the bridge and yes it was terrifying but is was me who wanted to cross Aaron did not like it one little bit. I just wanted to get to the end. it was sacry crossing it. Then we got to the end and our guide told us it was another 25 minutes walk to the car park and restaurant or we could take the zip line and a boat for 4 pound each, so we thought yes we will go for the easy but scary option so went down the zip line together and it was fun and amazing we loved it. it was so heigh buit the view was amazing. we then went on a lovely boat ride and had something to eat. we then set off home which was a 3 hour drive in the worst tin like van with no seat belts. we fell straight to sleep. it was amazing.
Love you all and miss you all so much. we will up load more photos soon. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
