I met my friend Carson in Cinque Terre for the weekend. WOW!! So amazing. The views are absolutely breathtaking.
I found myself wanting to take pictures constantly, of the same views. Normally, I just take pictures because I feel like I should.
The first afternoon we got settled and went to the beach, which is dotted with colorful umbrellas. After drinking a bottle of wine in our room, we splurged on an Italian dinner. I think the couple next to us at dinner got sick of our giggling. A marching band has been played in the streets from the time that we arrived in the afternoon until after midnight.
Today, we hiked among the five villages, stopping often to enjoy the views and explore the towns. The villages are very small. The largest, Monterosso, has only a population of 2,000; the smallest, Riomaggiore, has just 200. Reminds me of home, well maybe just with the population similarities!
The hiking trail often went by vineyards and along cliffs overlooking the sea, reminding me of the Caribbean, with its bright blue hues.
What does one do to celebrate a day of hiking 12 km? Margaritas and gelato. Cheers!
