As per all the Airbnb reviews the breakfast provided at this place was really good. I had homemade granola, fruits and yogurt. Yummy it set me up for the day.
I headed off first thing in the morning (after chatting a bit with Jesse, Annemarie's husband) to Point Lobo State Preserve. What a beautiful place it was for walking. I spent a good 4 hours along the coastal path and each bluff showcased even more of the areas nature and wildlife. Again it was foggy but it did not bother me (most likely because I've had so much great weather the last two weeks, I'm actually the tannest I've been in ages) and I saw harbor seals, otters playing in the khelp, Californian Sea Lions (wow those creatures can make some noise) and a wide variety of birds. Honestly the time flew by in this place.
I left around 1.30pm and headed to the town next door, Carmel, for lunch, picking a yelp hot spot to eat at. Thanks to the bar tender who poured me a very large glass of wine with my lunch I was so sleepy after eating than I needed a half hour siesta in my car. Well the half hour actually turned into 2 hours and I woke up at 5pm totally groggy and a little frustrated I had wasted some of the day, I guess I needed the sleep though and it was a total first on my side to take a power nap in a car, I think the last time I did that I was 2 years old!
Desperate to recover the last part of the day I had a little look around Carmel which is a delightful little town but a little too twee for my taste and certainly very touristy. There were more high end Inns and B&Bs than I have seen in other places and the shops were all expensive and unique. I looked at some of the shops as I made my way down to the beach which many people had told me was their favorite in the area.
Wow, I can see why people love this beach, the sand is the whitest I have seen yet in America and it's dog friendly, it's so lovely to see dogs off leash in a public place like this, that does not happen much in the US. There are quite a lot of surfers taking advantage of the waves and I spend some time watching them, contemplating whether I would enjoy surfing and concluded most likely not, you do get bashed around quite a bit!
I strolled the whole length of the beach and at the far right hand side it's fronted by the famous Pebble Beach Golf Course. When I had done getting my sea air for the afternoon I took the scenic drive back to the house. The scenic drive passes what I can only consider to be some of the most expensive properties in the US. For me looking at real estate is second only to my love of checking out hotels, so I was in heaven driving past all these beautiful properties wondering who was lucky enough to live there.
I returned to the lovely quite house only to discover that the Mexican neighbors were starting a party and as the band got going it bought back memories of when I lived in Cancun. I am not a huge fan of that type of Mexican music and it was made all the worse as the singer was terrible. Anyway I got on with updating this journal and luckily by the time I was ready for bed that party had died down.
