Another difficulty of hostel living is trying to get out the dorm without waking everyone else up if you are an early riser which I seem to be these days. Anyway only one more night here and then I'm moving on and I'll get my own room :)
I took the public bus over to Coronado Island which is connected to San Diego via a hugely impressive bridge. First on my agenda was a historic walking tour which lasted 90 mins and was extremely interesting and great value for $10. While I thought MJ our guide would talk about the military significance of the island which she did, she was actually far more focused on the overall development of the island which started as a resort community and the brain child of a couple of rich men in the 1880s who had no experience in tourism. The island was bought for $110,000 and this money was promptly recovered by the sale of lots which then aided the building of the hugely impressive (and well beloved) Hotel del Coronado.
After the tour I rented a bike and armed with a suggested bike route of 8 miles circled the island, looking at the beautiful white sandy beaches and the impressive array of upscale houses. Must be nice to live here.
Finished the day off with a beer looking across the water at the San Diego skyline where I am now writing this post. I'm going to take the ferry back across to the city and then stroll along the waterfront to the hostel, I have left overs from the Cheesecake Factory waiting for me.
