Arrived in Singapore on 22nd December after an overnight train journey from Kuala Lumpur. On our first day we went to Orchard Road which is the main shopping street and did more window shopping! There was a free shuttle bus from our hotel to Orchard Road which was good as bit too far to walk it. Went back to Orchard Road for tea and was strange to see the street all lit up with Xmas decorations, doesn't feel like Xmas in the warmth!!
On the second day we did lots of sightseeing. Went to Little India and had a look around the stalls and markets. From there walked to a big indoor market called Bugis Street, didn't stay long as was jam packed (also had no money to spend!!). Next stop was Raffles Hotel, which looked very pretty with all its Xmas decorations up. While we were there we went for a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar. From Raffles we walked down to the marina where there is a huge Merlion statue. The final stop on our wander was Clarke Quay which is a good place for restaurants and nightlife. All the buildings at Clarke Quay are brightly painted in different colours. In the evening we went to Chinatown for tea and had a wnader around the market stalls afterwards.
The third day we went over to Sentosa Island which is about 10 minutes on a cable car ride. When we got there we went down to the beach. It was so hot and humid though that you can't really sunbathe, it was also cloudy for most of the time too! Had a good wander around the island, got some lunch and then got the cable car back. In the evening we went back to Clarke Quay and had a meal at Hooters. After we had a wander around the bars, one of them was called Clinic and was done out like a hospital. The seats were wheelchairs and you could get cocktails in a drip!!
The next day was Xmas Day and was a strange day as really didn't feel like Xmas!! Had a buffet Xmas dinner in the hotel which was ok but nothing like our usual home cooked dinners! Made us realise that we actually like Xmas at home in the cold!!
Boxing day was when we flew to Sydney, we didn't have to leave the hotel until mid-afternoon so in the morning we went down to Orchard Road and had one more wander around the shops. Both excited to start our time in Oz!!
