Arrived in Sydney on 27th December and are staying with Becky F's aunty and uncle, Geri and Andy. Have been enjoying lots of lovely home comforts, yes including a flushing toilet! haha. On our first day we went to Manly beach for lunch and a wander around. Then in the evening we got the ferry in to the city and had drinks at a bar overlooking the harbour bridge (such a hard life!).
On our second day we did the tourist thing in the city and visited The Rocks, Opera House, Pitt Street (massive street with lots of shops) and then to Darling Harbour. Then on our third day we went to Bondi Beach, it was reallly busy...bit like Blackpool but just lots sunnier! Ended up sunbathing on some grass near the beach as the beach was so jam packed! On our way back we stopped to get our haircut in China Town (cheapest place we could find!)...were a bit worried what we would look like but was great. In the evening we then went out in Darling Harbour, unfortunately we forgot it was Saturday night and didn't realise that we were going to a dressy area of town. So we felt a bit shabby in our jeans and vest tops!! Met up with some of Becky B's friends from home while we were there.
Did some more sightseeing things on our fourth day, went to Bradley's Head, Middle Head and then to Balmoral Beach. Got some great views around the city. Also checked out Cremorne Point as we had decided that we would spend New Years Eve there, there were already people camped out to get a good view and was only 30th Dec.!
We decided to go down early to Cremorne Point to get our spot for NYE, so got there at 10am and was already filling up! We took lots of supplies and spent the daytime sunbathing. There were some family fireworks at 9pm and then the big ones at midnight...they were so spectacular. Well worth the 14hour wait!!! Had a great day and was much better than a cold and wet NYE at home! On New Years Day we had a nice relaxed day, went to some friends of Andy and Geri's who have a swimming pool...again this really is a hard life :-) !!
2nd Jan we went to Palm Beach which is where they film some of Home and Away. We were very excited about this, like the sad soap fans we are!
The Surf Club was there and even had a sign up, so obviously we had to get photos. After Palm Beach we went to a small town called Avalon and had bit of a sunbathe on the beach there. Didn't go in the sea as was freezing!! Nothing like the warm seas in Thailand.
Got our bus passes for going up the East Coast and then spent one morning trying to get some accomodation for our first stop in Byron Bay, couldn't get anything for the day we wanted so having to set off a day later!! Will try not to be so last minute with the rest of our bookings! Also found out that there is a cyclone further up the coast but fingers crossed that will have moved on by the time we get there.
