Dear beloved friends and the rest,
I have been on a safari for 2 days and seen the most amazing things one can ever ask for! First we went to Tarangire National park south from Arusha and saw wildebeasts (Mufasa killers), pumba's, elephants and many other spieces. At one point we had to stop because some wildebeasts and zebras were crossing the road. Albert; our guide and driver, said like "have you seen the lion on the road?". All of us jumps up to watch through the open roof and starts taking photos when the lion attacks one of the zebras. We saw the whole thing from a 20m distance and it was so cool! It took the lion almost 30 min to kill the zebra and both of them were struggling really hard. Within a couple of minutes we were surrounded by 30 safari vehicles which kinda ruined the atmosphere, but at least I can brag and say that we were there first!
We stayed at a camp close to Karatu; 1,5h drive away from the NP and it lied on top of a big hill with a view over the beautiful landscape. We brought our own food to get a better price for the safari tour. That really paid off as we bought food for 25$ for all of us instead of 120$. We had noodles, bread, mango, chips, sweets and mashmallows for dinner and drank vodka with juice. It was a fun night and they had a dance show at the camp. We barely slept though as it was so cold sleeping in a tent and so hard sleeping without a matress, sleeping bag or a pillow, but it was ok! The day was just perfect!
The morning after we left at 7 am to go to Ngorongoro; which is a conservation area with a big crater filled with wild animals. Ngorongoro means cow bell in Swahili because it sounds "ngoro ngoro" when the kettle moves. The nature there was just beautiful and at some points it felt like we were in the Jurassic park. When we entered it was like a jungle and then we drove down in the crater to get to the savanna. We saw hippos relaxing by the water holes, pelicans, flamingoes and believe it or not but we saw another lion hunt! The lion was walking when we arrived and then she started to speed up towards a water buffalo. It took 4 lions in order to kill it and we had a panorama view over the whole thing. One lion got kicked in the forehead and bled pretty bad. That's when Kim said "It's funny how a lion can be so cute even if they're covered in blood". And it's true. Lions look so cuddly! We saw a male lion as well and some cubs. They were so cute! Albert was so great! He really had an "African eye" as they call it and could spot a Cheetah laying in the grass far away. We stopped the land rover and watched until it stood up and we could finally see it. It was gorgeous! Before we left the park Albert spotted a rhino that was coming closer. Even if there were so many cars on the road he passed them all to get the best view and we were about 20 m away from it when it crossed the road. It was so fat! :) We got back to Arusha late in the evening and we were all very tired after these two days! These two days were surreal and we were so lucky! There are so many factors that would have made us miss everything! First of all we were suppose to go on a 1-day safari to Ngorongoro only on the Tuesday and secondly Albert suggested that we went to Tarangire instead of Lake Manyara right before we left. Lake Manyara was the actual plan. Thank God we got Albert as our guide. The company Africa Smart Safari was great and I'm glad we booked for that company. In total we paid 250$ for 2 days including accomondation. If we would have included food it would have been 280, which is still better than most companies!
It was a 2 amazing days and I love this country already!
